“Interdisciplinary Findings and Suggestions Symposium in Covid-19 Pandemic” realized at the Faculty of Communication at Near East University

Near East University Faculty of Communication, Radio-TV and Cinema Department organized an online symposium that brought experts together from different disciplines in relation to the coronavirus outbreak affecting the world.

At the symposium titled "Interdisciplinary Findings and Suggestions Symposium in Covid-19 Pandemic" held by Near East University Faculty of Communication Vice Dean and Head of Radio-TV and Cinema Department Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap and Vice Director of Near East University Social Sciences Institute, Assist. Prof. Ayhan Dolunay, the impacts of the coronavirus pandemic were discussed in terms of the basis of health, law and communication disciplines.

According to the information provided by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, in the first session of the symposium, which was chaired by Assoc. Prf. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Near East University Medical Faculty Hospital, Infection Diseases and Clinical Microbiology Specialist Prof. Dr. Kaya Süer, President of the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association Dr. Özlem Gürkut spoke on the subject's health leg.

Prof. Dr. Süer made a comprehensive presentation about the current state of the coronavirus epidemic in the world, and also made explanations regarding the virus's mutations and methods of struggle. President of the Cyprus Turkish Medical Association Dr. Özlem Gürkut, on the other hand, provided information about the development process of the virus in Cyprus and the measures taken, and made suggestions about the improvement of the health system and the fight against pandemics.

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ayhan Dolunay chaired the second session, through which the coronavirus outbreak and the legal dimension of the process was discussed, and Vice Dean of International Cyprus University Faculty of Law Assoc. Prof. Dr. Şölen Külahçı and Cyprus Turkish Human Rights Foundation Legal Advisor Attorney Öncel Polili also contributed to the symposium as speakers.

The chairman of the third and last session of the symposium, which took place online and lasted about 4 hours, was Assist. Prof. Dr. Mustafa Ufuk Çelik, and Sami Özuslu from the Cyprus Turkish Journalists Union and Near East University Communication Faculty Journalism Department lecturer Assist. Prof. Dr. Çağdaş Öğüç attended to the last session. In his speech, Özuslu explained that due to the economic problems that emerged with the coronavirus pandemic many press workers lost their jobs and many traditional newspapers stopped their publications, and as a result, many sites on the internet made ethical violations. Assist. Prof. Dr. Çağdaş Öğüç, on the other hand, made some comments on the media ethical violations in the context of the coronavirus epidemic and made suggestions for journalists to comply during this process.
