Information regarding the works that carried out in Near East University Robotic Laboratory on Autonomous (Unmanned) Bus was shared with the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman

-Near East University Robotic Soccer Team paid a visit to TRNC Prime Minister Tufan Özhürman....
Along with Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, the team in charge of NEUIslanders, the robotic soccer team of Near East University, which became the champion in RoboCup 2018 (Robotic Soccer World Cup) that held in Montreal in Canada, paid a visit to TRNC Prime Minister Tufan Özhürman in his office.

During the visit, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel and the accompanying team provided the Prime Minister Tufan Özhürman with information regarding the path leading to success of the robotic soccer team by underlining that 100% of the mechanical and electronic design and the artificial intelligence coding of the robots had been created by Near East University.

Besides, the Prime Minister Özhürman was provided with information regarding NEU's promising trials on unmanned bus and technological products that created at the Innovation and Information Technologies Center such as wheelchair driven by power of thinking.

During the visit, Prime Minister congratulated the accomplishments by stating that he had visited the Robotics Laboratory of Near East University recently and had the opportunity to see the impressive work on site.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “For wider applications on artificial intelligence, works towards unmanned car are going on in full stream.... We are planning to have our first tour in February....”
In his remarks, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel expressed their pride of becoming the champ of RoboCup 2018 that held in Montreal, Canada.

Highlighting that the world championship of the robotic soccer team of Near East University was one of the best examples of actualizing Near East University's vision of taking place amongst the third generation universities, Near East University Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan Günsel stated that their next goal was to actualize the co-project of the Innovation Center and Robotic Laboratory regarding to fabricate the unmanned bus that is capable of sensing its environment and navigating without human input. "Works on creating combination of sensors, cameras, radar and artificial intelligence for the unmanned car are very satisfactory and promising” said he.

Delivering information about the current process of works on producing unmanned bus, Associate Professor İrfan Günsel stated that they planned to take their first tour in February 2019. Underlining that the unmanned car would be capable of navigating in all road and weather conditions, Günsel explained that the unmanned bus would be used primarily as a ring service to provide the transportation of students within the campus. He underlined that after realizing these trial tests on campus, the shuttle services of Near East University between the city and the university could be provided by unmanned buses.

Expressing that they were ready to initiate the works required to set electronic election system in our country, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel ended his remarks by saying: "The Robotic Soccer Championship that we won this year is a clear indicator that Near East University can compete with the world giants in the field of technology. This propels our enthusiasm for sustaining our innovative works in this field and it also demonstrates once again what Turkish Cypriots are capable to achieve when provided with opportunity. Near East University is the leading-gear of our country in innovation. We are moving towards creating the future with great breakthroughs".
