In the “World Universities Ranking” published by METU URAP, Near East University, which is the best university in the TRNC, took place as the best 17th university and the 2nd best foundation university in Turkey

Near East University, along with Koç University, is among the top two foundation universities in Turkey in the “World Universities Ranking” announced by ODTÜ URAP, which is by far the best university in the TRNC.

The “World Universities Ranking” by URAP, which operates within the body of the Middle East Technical University Informatics Institute and which evaluates 3 thousand universities around the world, has been announced. While 115 universities from Turkey were included in the list, 3 universities from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus were included in the list.

Near East University, which was established in Nicosia in 1988 and has a deep-rooted tradition, was ranked 17th in Turkey in the list, and by far ranked as the best university in the TRNC, and ranked as one of the top two universities among private universities, along with Koç University.

The World University Rankings, prepared by URAP based on the academic performance data of the last five years, are based on six academic performance indicators. The data, which aim to measure the current scientific efficiency, research impact, scientific efficiency, research quality and international acceptance of the last five years, consist of the number of articles published in the last one year and the number of citations in the last five years, the total number of publications, the sum of the effect of the article and the sum of the effect of the citation. With its methodology, the research measures the quality and effectiveness of the publications produced by universities as well as the quantity.

URAP, operating within the body of the Middle East Technical University Informatics Institute, lists the universities in Turkey and the world based on the academic performances of the last five years. Near East University being ranked as the best university in the TRNC, ranked 17th in Turkey in general, and second among foundation universities. Near East University Chairman of the Board of Trustees Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “As the second top foundation university of Turkish higher education, it is extremely pleasing that the results of our research and production university vision, which is the product of a deep-rooted tradition, experience and conscious strategy that we have established since 1988, have been certified by independent rating agencies.”


At the end of October, Near East University was ranked first among Turkish and TRNC universities by the London-based higher education rating agency, among the top 175 universities in the world in ‘Computer Sciences’ and among the top 200 universities in the world in ‘Engineering’. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, “While we were ranked among the top 500 in the world in the field of ‘Education’ in the same list; We were in the 501-600 band in the field of ‘Clinical and Health’, and in the 601-800 band in the world in the fields of ‘Life Sciences’ and ‘Social Sciences’. These results, together with the data announced by METU URAP this week, clearly demonstrate the impact of our vision of education, which puts scientific production, research, development, art and technology at the center of its foundational policy.”
