The 20th of the “Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Conference”, which is held every four years, was held in Sydney, Australia this year. By bringing together the world’s most important researchers, academics and practitioner engineers working in this field, the conference aims to share up-to-date information and experiences. The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus was represented by Near East University Earthquake and Soil Research and Evaluation Center and Petroleum and Natural Gas Engineering Department Head Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar for the fifth time.

Joint paper presented by world-renowned academics
Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar, one of the most widely read scientists in the field of Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, Prof. Dr. Braja Das, Florida Atlantic University faculty member Prof. Dr. Khaled Sobhan, faculty members of the Indian National Institute of Technology Prof. Dr. Chittaranjan Patra and Assist. Prof. Dr. Barada Sethy participated with the joint paper titled “Eccentrically loaded circular surface foundation on loose and dense sand with limited thickness”

In the paper, which also includes the signature of Atalar; Laboratory model test results for the ultimate load-bearing capacity of a circular surface foundation supported by a sand layer of limited thickness under a solid rough foundation are presented. Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar said, “Based on the model test results, empirical reduction factor relationships have been developed to estimate the average final load-carrying capacity of shallow foundations per unit area for dense and loose sands.”

The “New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering” conference, which will be organized by the Near East University for the fifth time, will start on 30 June!
Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar said that he invited the experts of the field to the “New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering” conference, which will be held for the fifth time on July 2, 2022, by the Near East University. Prof. Dr. Atalar said, “We have invited the President of the World Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Association, the vice presidents and the presidents of the relevant associations from many countries will participate in the New Developments in Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering, which will be held in cooperation with the Turkish Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical Engineering Association and the Near East University, between 30 June and 2 July 2022.”
