“IAAF Kids’ Athletics Project” was realized at Near East University with Intense Participation

The Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus leg of the IAAF Kids’ Athletics Project was hosted by Near East University. IAAF Kids’ Athletics Project, which is implemented in 196 countries by the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF), is one of the biggest grassroots development programs in the world of sports and the most effective project for kids across the world.

72 trainees and a total of 110 students including 80 primary school students and 30 students from Near East Pre-school participated in the group event of IAAF Kids Athletics that implemented via courses and games in the form of fun.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the IAAF Kids’ Athletics Project, the aim of which is to popularize athletics through a program comprising event groups, was hosted by the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Near East University. The seminar and app program covered theoretical and practical courses for the trainees as well as athletics games in the form of fun.

Expressing his views regarding the event, Turkish Athletic Federation Kids' Athletics General Coordinator Necdet Ayaz voiced his happiness of realizing the IAAF (International Association of Athletics Federations) Kids' Athletics Project, which is implemented in 196 countries, in the sister country; namely in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

Having been guided by 72 Trainees, 110 Kids participated in Athletics Fun Games...
Within the scope of the event, Mehmet Serkan Aydın, Physical Education Teacher, Athletics Trainer and member of IAAF Kids' Athletics Trainer Group, gave a seminar and delivered courses titled as “Y Generation and Introduction to Kids' Athletics", "Physiological Differences and Adaptation in Kids Regarding Athletics Trainings", "Kids' Athletics Program and App Models". 72 trainees, who participated in the seminar, gave theoretical courses to 110 kids who participated in fun games within the scope of the event.

Within the scope of the project, Haldun Domaç, Turkish Sports Columnist and Commentator of ASports TV, gave a course on Fair Play while the Psychological Consultant Gözde Erdem delivered a lecture on Psychological Approaches to Kids in Sports.


A Video-Display About the Memorable and Legendary Sports People was performed...
The National and record-holder athletes and the sports people, who had left their marks on many memorable sports achievements in TRNC and Turkey so far, were reminded during the final session of the seminar, in which many theoretical courses and practical drills regarding kids' athletics were instructed,

"The Last Away Match", a short film about Mete Adanır; the unforgettable and legendary name of Turkish Cypriot football, was screened under the title of "Endless Values". Within the scope of the motto "Endless Values", plaques of appreciations were presented to the legendary Turkish national athletes including Ismail Akçay, Berk Tuna, and Eralp Adanır on behalf of our legendary deceased footballer Mete Adanır, in recognition of their contributions to the sports. Plaques of appreciations were also presented to NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor Irfan Günsel and Faculty of Sports Sciences instructor Figen Yaman Lesinger for their contributions to the organization of the course.

Delivering a speech, Figen Yaman Lesinger, instructor at the Faculty of Sports Sciences, extended her appreciations to NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor Irfan Günsel, who spared no sacrifices and provided all kinds of support required for actualizing the event.

Delivering the closing remarks of the event, the Turkish Athletic Federation Kids' Athletics General Coordinator Necdet Ayaz expressed endless great satisfaction of being hosted by a great educational institution like Near East University.

Underlining the importance of introducing children to Athletics at a basic level and ensuring a steady and sustainable policy of development of the sport of athletics, Ayaz stated that they wished to organize more courses on athletics in collaboration with the Faculty of Sports Sciences of Near East University, which is a faculty giving direction to the sports and raising the athletes of the future.

IAAF Kids' Athletics program came to an end by presenting the trainees certificates of participation and having a family photo taken.
