The first and only children’s university of Cyprus, Özay Günsel Children’s University realised an oral and dental health training workshop for its students in order to increase the knowledge of the children on oral and dental health, to teach them proper dental care, to explain how to eat right and to assure that these become part of their behaviour.

As part of the workshop, students had a session on “What are our teeth for and how do we chew” run by Academic member of Faculty of Dentistry of Near East University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Aylin İslam. This gave the children the opportunity to learn what our teeth are for and the systems involved; and also got information about healthy teeth and oral health, and got their teeth checked.

Children were informed on correct attitudes and behaviour regarding dental health and oral care
The training workshop focused on the importance of dental health and the fear of dentists is unnecessary. The students got details on how many teeth we have, the different tooth types, brushing teeth, visit to dentist (unnecessary dentophobia), nutrition and oral health, threats to oral and dental health, and tooth sensitivity.

Asst. Assoc. Dr. Aylin İslam made speeches with mutual dialogues and practices to make oral and dental health education fun for the students. Later, she checked each student’s teeth. In order to direct students to acquire the habit of brushing their teeth, she explained how regular and in time brushing was significant. Furthermore, Asst. Assoc. Dr. Aylin İslam showed the students the correct way of brushing their teeth.
