Near East University was the 4th team that won the Cup at the organization which was organized 25 times in İzmir, Bornova, between 1-4 March, and took the Cup to the Near East University museum. The Cup of Turkey has already been won by Galatasaray and Fenerbahçe 11 times and by BOTAS 2 times. Near East University, defeating Galatasaray and the other top three names in Turkish Women's Basketball history, has taken the 25th Turkey Cup to its museum.

Zafer Kalaycıoğlu increases the serial number to 11

Near East University, the leader of the Turkey's Women's Basketball League and the quarter-finalist of FIBA EuroCup, won its first cup with the Head Coach Zafer Kalaycıoğlu, who previously had 6 Turkey Cups in Fenerbahçe, 3 Cups in Galatasaray and became the top cup-winning coach of Turkey, and finally has managed to get the 11th cup in the 11th final. Head coach Zafer Kalaycioglu received his 25th cup in total at the Turkey Cup and championships. Turkey Cup's final match first time played without one of the teams of Galatasaray, Fenerbahce and Besiktas becoming the finalist since 2003.

Cup's Most Valuable Players from Near East University

In the final match, Quanitra Hollingsworth making 24 points, 11 rebounds and 2 assists from Near East University was selected as the most valuable player of the match. Courtney Vandersloot, who is wearing number 22 form and is one of the world's best guards, was chosen as the Cup's most valuable basketball player. Kayla McBride, another player of the Near East University, was selected as the most valuable player of the game with his performance in the quarter-final Galatasaray match and scored 26 points.

Near East University having a great joy after the final match played in Izmir Bornova Atatürk Sports Hall shared the joy with the players and fans who supported the Near East University Team. After the championship, a crowded group wanted to take photographs with the players of the Near East University. Finding a strong support from fans, everyone from 7 to 70 went in line to take photos with the cup of the Near East University.

Special stamp was made for the Near East University and Bellona AGU by PTT who sponsored the organization. Special stamps were given to the captains of the two teams on behalf of the team.

The Women's Basketball Team of the Near East University, which takes the Cup of Turkey to its museum, will compete in the quarterfinals with the French team ESBVA Lille at the Euroleague and will fight for the cup of Women's EuroCup. First round of the quarter-finals will be played on Tuesday, March 7, 2017 at 22:00 in Lille, Villeneuve d'Ascq, Palacium Hall, France. Match will be live broadcast on www.fiba.com.
