Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was commemorated with a ceremony held at the Atatürk Monument on the Near East University Campus as part of the 10 November commemoration activities

Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk was commemorated on the 83rd anniversary of his passing, with a ceremony held at the “Atatürk Monument” located on the Near East University Campus. Life stopped when the clocks showed 09:05 on the Near East University Campus as well as throughout the island.

Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, faculty members and employees of the Near East Organization laid wreaths at the Atatürk Monument and stood in silence accompanied by sirens when the clocks showed 09:05. In addition to the commemoration ceremony held at the Atatürk Monument, the Great Leader Atatürk was commemorated with love, respect and longing at all faculties of the Near East University.

Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel: “Even though it has been 83 years since he left us, the light of enlightenment that Atatürk lit has been continuing to guide us.”
Emphasizing that the Great Leader Mustafa Kemal Atatürk is an immortal leader who not only changed the destiny of the Turkish nation, but also changed the balances of the whole world with his actions, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “As one of the most important leaders in world history, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk gained the respect of the world with his farsightedness, his vision and his peaceful identity that made Turkey a part of the modern world. In all the years that have passed, his unique place in the heart of the Turkish nation has never changed.” Prof. Dr. Günsel also said, “Even though it has been 83 years since he left us, the light of enlightenment that Atatürk lit has been continuing to guide us.”

Reminding the words of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk: “A nation that does not paint, a nation that does not make sculptures, a nation that does not do what science requires; it has no place in the path of development…”, Near East University Acting Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, on the other hand, emphasized that the importance he attaches to the guidance of science and art has transformed Mustafa Kemal Atatürk into a statesman and leader whose equals are very rarely seen in history. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “We commemorate our guide, Great Leader Atatürk, with respect, longing and mercy, on the 83rd anniversary of his pass.”
