2017-2018 Spring Semester Graduates of Faculty of Communication of the Near East University received their diplomas with a glorious ceremony held at Hall 4 at the Grand Library.
Faculty of Communication feels great honor and pride of raising students having the broad range of skills required to fulfill their professions. Students, who met the graduation requirements at the end of the spring semester of the academic year 2017-2018, received their diplomas with a glorious ceremony held at Hall 4 in Grand Library.
The graduation ceremony was realized with the participation of Near East University vice Rector Associate Professor Mustafa Kurt, Faculty of Communication Acting Dean Associate Professor Gökçe Keçeci, institute directors, department chairpersons, faculty members, students and their parents.
The graduation ceremony began with a commemorative stand in silence for Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, Turkish Cypriot leader Dr. Fazıl Küçük, TRNC Founding President Rauf R. Denktaş and all martyrs and followed by national anthem. Following the introductory video of the activities realized within the scope of the media workshop held in the academic year 2017-2018, the participants experienced joyful and unforgettable moments with the music recital performed by Ilyas Abdullin from the Music Teaching Department of Atatürk Faculty of Education. The music recital performed by Group Fallaf consisting of Fatih Çöker and 3rd grade student Ali Cem Gül from the Department of Visual Communication and Design received standing ovation.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Keçeci: "Today, we are experiencing the joy and enthusiasm of celebrating not an end but a new beginning"
In her opening remarks, the Acting Dean of the Faculty of Communication, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Gökçe Keçeci underlined that every end had a new beginning.
"Dear Colleagues, I am sure that you are having one of the most enjoyable moments of your profession which demands a great patience and dedication. Your students, whom you provided with professional knowledge and skills that cover all dimensions of communication processes, are here in front of you as graduates. No doubt that you are proud of them. I would like to express that I am extremely proud of being here together our students and their esteemed parents.
The success that crowned always points to a new beginning. In this regard, today we are experiencing the excitement and enthusiasm of celebrating not an end but a new beginning. Our students, each of who has a distinguished value for us, will step into their professional lives as a part of Near East Family. Our graduates have received their education in the context of equality principle in a contemporary environment where they had the opportunity to combine practice with theoretical knowledge, have a say in academic debates, and participate in many activities. We know that the only treasure that cannot be taken from their hands, cannot be handed back and cannot be torn off from them is education. They now have it.
Compared to each previous one, every year the Faculty of Communication, which has been offering quality education beyond global standards for 21 years, enhances its possibilities required competing with the most demanding faculties and raising well-equipped students having professional knowledge and skills as well as awareness and sense of responsibility on social issues, nature, and ethical values. We are experiencing the pleasure of completing the academic year of 2017-18 successfully with the most up-to-date curricula, increasing number of courses and events gaining quality.
Faculty of Communication of NEU is uniquely positioned itself to stand out as a leading institution. I believe that we have achieved this goal. With this point of view and attitude, our graduates, who are equipped with adequate theoretical and technical knowledge acquired throughout four year undergraduate education, will always be a step ahead to analyze the issues and reach the right result through proper assessments. From now on, to boost and brighten their knowledge and skills are in their hands” noted she.
Addressing to the graduated students, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Keçeci highlighted the importance of being a graduate of NEU and said: "Now you are graduates of the Near East University which is the pride of Turkish Cypriots. It is a privilege to be a graduate of the Near East University. I hope, this privilege will encourage you to be good and loyal individuals to your family, the society you live in, your country and nation. This is not a farewell. Our ties will be vibrant. As a graduate of the Near East University, every new accomplishment you achieve in your working life will further exalt the Near East University and make us happier and cheer us up as well. Facing challenges with strength, determination and confidence is what matters, and you are capable to do it. Congrats! I wish you continuous success.
Dear parents, you entrusted your beloved children to us. Be sure that we raised them well. You are here today with high feelings. You are experiencing the right proud of witnessing your children receiving their diplomas. We share the same excitement and pride with you. Don't have any doubt; Near East University has raised these young people well. Be sure of their future success and trust them, be proud of them” said she.
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kurt: “Near East University produced 796 scientific articles that corresponds to the number of articles produced by 16 universities"
In his remarks, Near East University vice Rector Associate Professor Mustafa Kurt underlined the importance of farming out information through scientific research and converting this knowledge into production. "I want you know that our university is a third generation university adopting science as its essence. Near East University is a scientific product-based university. Innovation, scientific research and the creation of new technology are the cores of our university. In short, Near East University is a third generation university which not only ensures quality in education but also carries out scientific research studies in order to produce science for creation new technology.
Near East University stands forefront as an internationally known prestigious university. The greatness of Near East University is not numerical; it is not physical at all. The greatness of a university is always assessed by taking into consideration the science that it produces and therefore the number of scientific articles published in high index journals. Considering the number of scientific articles published in 2017, NEU Faculty of Communication ranks the third place among faculties in our university. They achieved a lot in the last 2 years in terms of scientific production. This is a great accomplishment. Our university produced 792 articles in 2017. It is less than 1000 but I want to make such a relational explanation; there are currently 16 active universities in Northern Cyprus. This number corresponds to the number of articles produced by these 16 universities. Near East University produced 796 articles alone while 16 universities produced 796 articles in total" said he.
NEU vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Kurt ended his remarks by congratulating the graduates and wishing them success in their new lives.
On behalf of the term graduates, Zeynep Alkan, top placed graduate of the Faculty of Communication, delivered a speech. Then, on behalf of foreign students, Vongai Mbayimayi made a speech.
Following the speeches, Near East University vice Rector Mustafa Kurt presented medals and their diplomas to the top placed graduates. Then, the other graduates were presented their diplomas respectively. Upon receiving their diplomas, the graduates experienced the joy of graduation by throwing their caps...
