From Eyes to Teeth, Posture to Nutrition: Comprehensive Health Screening Launched at Near East Primary School

Near East Primary School, with the support of Near East University, has launched a comprehensive health screening program for its students, covering eyes, teeth, posture, and nutrition. The two-week program will examine each student’s development using scientific data, and personalized health reports will be provided to parents.
Near East Primary School has initiated a comprehensive Health Screening Program to support the healthy development of its students. Within the scope of the program, launched with the support of Near East University, posture analysis, eye and dental health checks will be conducted without disrupting the students’ lessons. Practical training sessions will also be held on topics such as correct toothbrushing techniques, healthy eating habits, breath and body awareness. At the end of the program, personalized screening reports prepared for each student will be given to parents. Following Near East Primary School, the two-week program will also be implemented at Dr. Suat Günsel Girne Primary School and Near East Yeniboğaziçi Primary School.

The program, conducted with the academic support of Near East University Hospital and the Faculties of Medicine, Dentistry, Health Sciences, and Sports Sciences of Near East University, aims to scientifically examine the health status of primary school children and reinforce healthy lifestyle habits. The health screening began with an opening ceremony held at Near East Primary School. Opening speeches were given by Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy and Near East Primary School Principal Fatma Coşar.

Multidisciplinary Health Examination with Comprehensive Screenings…
The health screening initiated for primary school students will be conducted by expert academics and healthcare professionals from Near East University, which is among the top 500 universities in the world. Near East University Faculty of Dentistry will conduct oral and dental health screenings, thoroughly checking up the students’ dental structure to determine caries risks and preventive treatment needs. Near East University Hospital will conduct eye screenings to examine the students’ eye health.

Healthy nutrition education will be provided by dieticians to instill proper eating habits in children. In addition, body mass index and percentile measurements will be taken to scientifically monitor the growth and development of each student. The Near East University Faculty of Sports Sciences will also provide comprehensive data on students’ posture, motor skills, and musculoskeletal development through posture analyses and vertical jump tests.

Speaking at the opening of the “Health Screening Program for Primary School Children” launched at Near East Primary School, Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy emphasized that the aim of the program is to examine the general health status of students and support healthy lifestyle habits. Saying “Our university’s scientific expertise, our faculties’ specialization, and our school’s child-centered approach are all united for the same purpose.” Prof. Dr. Aksoy added, “Children who grow up with healthy teeth, clear vision, balanced posture, and correct eating habits are the foundation of a strong future.”

Fatma Coşar, the principal of Near East Primary School, emphasized in her speech that health is the greatest value in life, stating that they are taking an important step for the future of children with this program. “Health is the source of our energy, the key to our happiness, and the foundation of a strong future.” Coşar said, adding, “Today, we are embarking on a very valuable journey for our children, our parents, and ourselves. This journey excites us all and gives us all hope.”

Fatma Coşar also stated that they want to fully utilize the advantages of studying at the Near East University campus, which is among the top 500 universities in the world. She said that students will undergo dental, eye, and posture screenings for two weeks. Coşar added that specialist doctors will provide children with accurate health information, and a dietitian will give training to reinforce healthy eating habits. She said, “All our classes will participate in regular screenings with our guidance counselors and classroom teachers. We will carry out our process step by step, meticulously. Our aim is to create a more conscious and healthier school community.” In her speech, Fatma Coşar emphasized that health is an indispensable right to life, adding, “Let’s not forget; smiling healthy, growing up healthy, and living healthy are every child’s rights.”
