A committee consisting of Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia, Cemre Günsel Haskasap, alongside Vice Rector Prof. Dr. İlkay Salihoğlu; Dean of Faculty of Aviation and Space Sciences, Prof. Dr. Süleyman Tolun; Dean of Faculty of Maritime Management, Prof. Dr. Ertuğrul Doğan, paid a visit to the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) Ömer Kalyoncu. The Prime Minister was provided information regarding the current status of the University, its vision and aims on development, and its new projets.

It was revealed that at the visit, the Founding Rector of University of Kyrenia had provided the Prime Minister information regarding the current status of the University, alongside future plans and projects. She expressed that there were four faculties, one graduate school and a vocational school providing education and training under the body of the university. Additionally, it was emphasised that University of Kyrenia was fortunate as it was based on accumulated knowledge and experience of Near East University over its past thirty eight years. It was further added that the infrastructure and superstructure attained through the twenty year experience of the Faculty of Maritime Studies of Near East University makes the education and training provided by the University of Kyrenia highly valuable as it is a university mainly established to provide service in this field. Moreover, it was stated that the University of Kyrenia had reached around a thousand students, and that they were expecting this number to continuously rise over the coming years.

The Prime Minister of TRNC was also briefed that twenty seven new educational programmes had received prior authorisation from the Ministry of National Education of TRNC, and they were working on attaining authorisation from the Higher Education Council of TRNC (YÖDAK); that the campus of the University of Kyrenia was completed and that by the academic year 2016-2017 the indoor parking space with a capacity of 250 cars will be completed. In addition to the above, Prime Minister was provided detailed infprmation on the projects of the University, and on future organisations and events to be held by the University of Kyrenia.

Geçitkale Airport is open for flights…..

Furthermore, it was expressed that opening Geçitkale Airport for the service of the universities which provide education and training on aviation and pilotage was highly beneficial on behalf of the universities in northern Cyprus, besides being an opportunity for the maintenance of the airport itself. It was revealed that Prime Minister had shown great interest on this idea and that he had emphasised that he would be enquiring on making this happen.

Prime Minister Kalyoncu: “The University of Kyrenia is displaying a promising future!”

The Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Ömer Kalyoncu, expressed how pleased he was from the visit of the committee from the University of Kyrenia and that the university had shown a remarkable development since the date of establishment. The Prime Minister reminded that higher education was a significant sector of the country and that developments of the University of Kyrenia indicated a promising future. Kalyoncu particularly pointed out that the future goals and visions of the university expressed to him had highly impressed him and that he was looking forward to observing the actualisation of these. He also emphasised that the events and organisations that University of Kyrenia had significance as they involved social responsibility and social unity, and that he strongly believed that universities should show particular emphasis on issues alike.
