In this respect, a press conference was held at the Near East University Hospital Hall 101 to inform the public about Özay Günsel Children's University, which will be established for the first time in Cyprus.

According to the information given by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, in the press conference where information on mission, vision and activities of Özay Günsel Children's University was given, Özay Günsel Children's University Board of Trustees President Anna Günsel, Rector Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli, Vice Rector of Near East University Dr. Tamer Şanlidağ, Near East College Director Asim Idris and Near East Primary School Principals Mehmet Süleymanoğlu and Izzet Yılmaz were present.

The opening speech of the meeting was made by Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlidağ. Prof. Şanlıdağ started his speech with an African proverb, "To grow up a child, the whole village is needed" and said that they feel a great excitement, happiness and pride at that moment. Prof. Dr. Sanlidag said "For our children, who will establish our future, we have founded Özal Günsel Children's University in order to make them adopt national and universal values, and grow up as creative, enterprising, nature and environment-sensitive individuals starting from an early age under the umbrella of the university and meet scientists and artists, as well as realizing their own talents and create their own success stories".

Özay Günsel Children's University Rector Prof. Dr. Filiz Meriçli speaking about the mission, vision and goals of the Children's University, stated that they were excited to announce the establishment of the Özay Günsel Children's University on a special day, 23rd April, dedicated to children by Atatürk, the great visionary leader of the Turkish nation.

Prof. Dr. Meriçli stated in her speech that they will prepare students for the future at the Özay Günsel Children's University. Prof. Dr. Meriçli said, "We will develop their imagination, bringing them together with academics, make them come up with solutions, innovations and become innovative entrepreneurs, and as individuals who are socially conscious, grow as citizens of the world.". Prof. Dr. Meriçli added, "Every child is a star and will shed the future" and further stated that with the Children's Universith they will provide opportunities for children so that they will be able to stand out and become beneficial individuals for both their country and the world.

Programs Developed for 6-11 and 11-17 age groups...
Prof. Dr. Meriçli said: "Starting in the summer of 2019, we have prepared various programs for 6-11 and 12-17 age groups. We will bring the 6-11 age group together with the environment, nature, science and technology, including small health workers, young doctors, young nurses, architects, artists and social scientists. We'll make sure that they make their dreams come true. We will develop their creativity and questioning power. They will isolate DNA in the developed world-class laboratories of the Near East University, work on genetics, and realize their own dreams with computers and robots in the innovation and technology unit. As the small explorers and small travelers, they will make visits to the library and museums. Children's works produced at the university will also be gathered under the Children's Museum. The 12-17 age group will also discover their own talents and make improvements for both the society and the world.

Prof. Dr. Meriçli stating that the Near East University campus will be the child friendly campus, added that child-friendly hospitals, child-friendly libraries, child-friendly museums will be designed so that a child-friendly Northern Cyprus and child-friendly tourism will also be mentioned.

Prof. Dr. Meriç also stated that the Özay Günsel Children's University is a big profit for children of Cyprus and for the world, children's senate and children's councils will set be founded and guests from UNICEF guests will be invited and friendships will be shared. Children and young people will not only raise awareness about universities but themselves.
