The “Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Training,” carried out by Near East University, one of the world’s top 500 universities, strengthened young people’s financial awareness and entrepreneurial consciousness. The first event of the training program was held at Meral-Vedat Ertüngü State High School.
Near East University, one of the world’s top 500 universities, has been continuing to connect young people with life skills at an early age in line with its understanding of social responsibility and sustainable development goals. Within this scope, the “Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurship Training,” implemented by the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences of Near East University, was conducted with the participation of 11th-year students at Meral-Vedat Ertüngü State High School. The program stood out as a sustainable education model aiming to increase young people’s economic awareness and contribute to local social development.
The training, given by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Baykan, Head of the Human Resources Management Department at the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Near East University, offered an approach aimed at generating long-term societal benefits in addition to individual development. During the training, students gained comprehensive knowledge on fundamental topics such as budget management, saving awareness, financial risks, entrepreneurial culture, and business idea development. Through interactive presentations and case studies, students were able to relate financial concepts to their daily lives, and their interest in the subject increased.
Students who participated in the training stated that the knowledge they gained significantly contributed to their future planning; particularly, their awareness in the field of entrepreneurship increased, and they gained motivation to develop their own business ideas.
Prof. Dr. Şerife Eyüpoğlu, Dean of the Faculty of Economics and Administrative Sciences, Near East University Şerife Eyüpoğlu stated that they were pleased with the intense interest the program received and the positive feedback, saying, “Enabling young people to gain financial awareness and entrepreneurial skills at an early age is one of the fundamental steps in building a sustainable society. In this regard, we aim to expand our program in 2026 and reach even more students.”
Touching upon plans to expand the program, Prof. Dr. Eyüpoğlu stated that their initial goal is to reach all state high schools in Nicosia, and then expand to other major cities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. She added that this will transform the education process, initiated at the local level and shaped around the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, into a lasting and sustainable social impact model across the country.
