Exhibiton themed "Cyprus in the Light of the Ottoman Documents"  and held in cooperation with Cyprus Turkish National History Museum and the State Archives Department of Presidency of the Republic of Turkey  was opened by the Republic of Turkey Ambassador to Nicosia Ali Murat Başçeri.

According to the press information provided by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, Prime Minister Ersin Tatar, Turkey Ambassador in Nicosia, Ali Murat Başçeri, Economy and Energy Minister Hasan Taçoy, Principal Consultant Kadir Akçeşme, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of Özay Günsel Children's University Anna Günsel, Founding President of the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum Board Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul, Deputy Secretary General of the National Unity Party, Ahmet Savaşan, Vice Rectors, academicians and guests attended to the opening ceremony of the exhibition, consisting of 100 documents on various topics related to the Ottoman rule in Cyprus,  in the Exhibition Hall of the Grand Library.

At the opening of the exhibition, the Founding President of the Board of the Turkish Cypriot National History Museum Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul made a speech and talked about the founding purpose and importance of the Turkish Cypriot National History Museum.

The importance is given to museums in line with the mission of introducing cultural assets, protection of artworks and transferring them to next generations...

In the exhibition titled "Cyprus in the Light of Ottoman Documents", Prof. Dr. Özkul pointed out that the order that the Ottoman Empire had established on the island of Cyprus was described in the light of 120 documents starting from the conquest. Prof. Dr. Özkul said that the documents to be exhibited will be recorded in the inventory of the Turkish Cypriot National History Museum which will open its doors to the visitors in 2020 and will continue to be exhibited.

As the Near East University, he stated that one of the most important goals of the university is creating a conscious public opinion about cultural heritage, preserving the works and transferring them to future generations. Prof. Dr. Özkul emphasized the importance of the exhibition and said: "We had started  15 years ago to open our exhibitions about Ottoman era  which had dominated Cyprus. Today we are adding a new one to these exhibitions. The oldest document to be exhibited is dated to the July 3, 1570, when the Ottoman Empire soldiers set foot on the island, and the newest document was about the Turkish Cypriots who migrated from the island to the homeland after the Lausanne Peace Treaty of 20 November 1926. In the exhibition, everything that goes on in the island under the administration of Ottoman Empire from education to foundations and from the population to trade is explained through the edicts, sanctions, orders and provisions. In addition, various visual materials, including miniatures, engravings and maps, were used in the exhibition."

3 New Museum Will Be Established Within The Campus...
Prof. Dr. Özkul,  emphasizing that as the Near East Family they attach importance to cultural assets as much as they attach to science, said that they will bring into life the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, Maritime Museum, Knife and Sword Museum along with the
Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts,  Museum of Herbarium and Natural History of Cyprus and Cyprus Car Museum, which combines science, technology and art.

After the opening speech, the exhibition ribbon was cut and the exhibition was visited. The exhibition, which includes orders, decrees,  provisions, maps and miniatures will be visited between the hours of 09.00-16.00 until 15 June 2019.
