An exhibition will be opened at Cyprus Arts Center on the 15th January on the 35th anniversary of his death in memory of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, the leader of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and freedom.
Consisting of 103 artworks created by 38 talented artists by using different techniques, the "Exhibition of Republic Day", which was organized in honor of the foundation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), was opened at Cyprus Arts Center that affiliated to Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts by the Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman.
According to the info delivered by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, TRNC Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, NEU Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Associate Professor İrfan S. Günsel, NEU Rector Professor Ümit Hassan, vice rectors, deans, artists, art-lovers and guests participated in the third exhibition of Cyprus Arts Center situated in Atatürk Culture and Congress Center.
Curated by Associate Professor Erdoğan Ergün, the Exhibition of Republic Day features artworks such as paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs and printmaking created by using different techniques. The exhibition will be open to public till the 30th November, 2018.
The opening speeches of the exhibition were delivered by TRNC Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, NEU vice Rector Professor Fahrettin Sadıkoğlu and NEU Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Dean Professor Erdal Aygenç.
Prof. Dr. Erdal Aygenç: "An Exhibition that brings together different personalities having different techniques..."
In his opening remarks, Professor Aygenç stated that 38 different persons engaged in art at Near East University came together and created a group exhibition by using different techniques. "When we talk about art, first of all, we have to ask "what does art reflect?". Art reflects reality. However, it is not a reality that we face every day and everyone perceives at once.The reality of art is to pursue and perceive reality beyond what is visible.“It is not possible to understand and explain arts with words; it is possible via emotions, let's live our emotions in the exhibition" said he.
Prof. Dr. Fahrettin Sadıkoğlu: "We will witness art Rrflecting different thoughts and emotions..."
Highlighting that the Exhibition of Republic Day had been organized in honor of the foundation of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, NEU vice Rector Professor Fahrettin Sadıkoğlu said that the exhibition reflected the inner-world, thoughts and feelings of the talented artists.
Expressing that the exhibition was an event realized within the scope of Cyprus Museum of Arts that established within the body of Near East University, Professor Sadıkoğlu underlined that all artworks at the exhibition were special works to be displayed for the first time.
Indicating that art always had an important place in history of civilization, Professor Sadıkoğlu underlined that the great Turkish Leader, the Founder of the Republic of Turkey, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk expressed the importance of art in his saying " I would like to point out with special emphasis that one of the historical characteristics of the Turkish nation is to appreciate the fine arts and science and to advance in them as well. Therefore, it is our national ideal to support and develop the worthy and noble character of the Turkish nation through dedication to science and love of fine arts. The ability of a nation's arts is measured by the value given to fine arts. If a nation does not engage in arts and science, that nation can't advance towards the future".

Exhibitions will be opened to commemorate the Leaders of the Turkish Cypriot People’s Struggle for Existence and Freedom.
Expressing that exhibitions would be opened in memory of Dr. Fazıl Küçük and Rauf Raif Denktaş, the leaders of the Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and freedom, vice Rector Fahrettin Sadıkoğlu stated that the first exhibition would be opened to commemorate Dr. Fazıl Küçük on 15 January on the 35th anniversary of his death. He said that the exhibition would be realized with the participation of national artists and those involved in arts at Near East University. Professor Sadıkoğlu ended his remarks by extending his appreciations to the Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel and NEU Board of Trustees chairman Associate Professor İrfan S. Günsel in recognition of their vision in arts as well as for their moral and material support.
Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman: We can document our existence with the things that we produce..."
Underlining that the idea of opening "Exhibition of Republic Day" on the 35th anniversary of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was very significant, Prime Minister Erhürman stated that peoples continued to exist as long as they produced.
Indicating that art was one of the essential components of the Turkish Cypriot people's struggle for existence, Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman expressed his views: “We can document our existence merely with the things that we produce. The existence of peoples is closely related with what they produce. Those, who are producers, never fade away. To produce means not only material production but also artistic and cultural production. Therefore, production in all domains of life is essential to sustain our existence. In order to say "I exist", the Turkish Cypriot people are under the obligation to produce more in all fields, to produce better quality, and to share the things that they produce with the world” said he.
Voicing that he had attended the fifth artistic event since they laid the foundations of the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts almost four months ago, Prime Minister Erhürman congratulated Near East University for her vision in Arts and celebrated the NEU's artists for their contribution to the "Exhibition of Republic Day", where they would have opportunity to see their valuable artworks consisting of paintings, sculptures, printmaking and ceramics.
