On the 35th anniversary of his death, Dr. Fazıl Küçük, the Leader of Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and freedom, is being commemorated with an exhibition themed “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle”. The exhibition, which is dedicated to Dr. Fazıl Küçük has been organized by Cyprus Turkish National History Museum which is within the body of Near East University Education Foundation.

Consisting of 165 artworks created by our country’s 92 talented artists, the exhibition titled “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle”, which has been organized in memory of Dr. Fazıl Küçük, the Leader of Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and freedom, will be opened on January 15, 2019 by the President Mustafa Akıncı.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that the exhibition titled “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle”, would be held at Cyprus Arts Center located in Atatürk Culture and Congress Center (AKKM). It was stated that the opening of the exhibition would be realized at 11.00 on Tuesday January 15, 2019 by TRNC President Mustafa Akıncı.

Having being established with joint contributions of Near East University and University of Kyrenia within the Near East Campus under the umbrella of the Education Foundation of Near East University, Cyprus Turkish National History Museum will open its doors to the visitors in 2020. In order to commemorate Dr. Fazıl Küçük on his 35th death anniversary, Cyprus Turkish National History Museum organized the exhibition titled “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle”. Within this scope, the exhibition features paintings, sculptures, ceramics and photographs describing Dr. Fazıl Küçük and reflecting the years of national struggle. 165 artworks created by 92 talented artists involved in plastic arts, photographic materials, memorabilia related to the Turkish Cypriot people’s national struggle and objects specific to those years will be the displayed at the exhibition.

Artworks created by using different techniques will bring the history into life…
Oil paintings, acrylic paintings, ceramics/sculpture artworks, historic photographs prepared by using overlap technique, artworks created by using collage technique, video graphics, digital illustration, digital printing and linocut printmaking techniques will be displayed at the exhibition titled “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National History”. A silicone sculpture depicting Dr. Fazıl Küçük will also be displayed at the exhibition. Other sculptures depicting the leaders of national struggle will be added to the collection of the museum in the coming periods.

The Exhibition is open for visits throughout a month…
Photographs taken by Cypriot photographers, who had experienced the national struggle years and witnessed many events, will also be displayed at the exhibition. The exhibition will be open for the visitors throughout a month.


Cyprus Turkish National History Museum will keep the Memory Alive of Those who left their traces in Turkish Cypriots’ National Struggle…
The Cyprus Turkish National History Museum has designed a survey to determine currently living or passed away persons that had a leading role in the Turkish Cypriot community and left their traces in the struggle for existence and freedom. In the line with the results of the survey, the sculptures depicting those heroes will be worked out and exhibited at the museum. Underlining NEU’s commitment to continuing to open new horizons for our people and conveying our historical heritage, cultural values and artistic accumulations to next generations, the Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences and the Founding Chairman of the Board of the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, Professor Ali Efdal Ozkul stated that Turkish Cypriot People shed their sweat and tears to give life to these lands on which they had been struggling for existence for 445 years. “In order to commemorate Dr. Fazıl Küçük on his 35th death anniversary and underline the importance of the struggle for existence and freedom and the crucial role of leaders in this struggle, we organized the exhibition titled “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle” said he.

“Our ancestors had strived for existence and freedom on these lands for years. To convey this legendary national struggle to next generations takes place among the greatest missions of the Cyprus Turkish National History Museum” noted he.

Expressing that Cyprus Turkish National History Museum, which is an important cornerstone registering the existence of Turkish Cypriot people, had been brought into a being via Founding Rector Dr. Suat İ. Günsel’s foresight and vision, Professor Özkul indicated that the museum would open its doors for the visitors in 2020. “The museum will have a crucial task in shedding light on the past and history of Turkish Cypriots and providing information concerning our struggle to exist and to take roots on the island. The young generation needs to know their past and history well before setting out to explore the future. The National History Museum, which will be a place where the history of Turkish Cypriots comes alive, will reflect Turkish Cypriot people’s struggle for existence and freedom by using the most contemporary audio-visual devices. Within the structure of the museum, all tools, materials, documents, traditional clothes and social surroundings reflecting the characteristics of their time will be exhibited thematically and chronologically. In this context, our young people as well as visitors will have the opportunity to experience and figure out the past as if they were living in that period of history. It will be a living museum, which will continuously enhance its core collection and provide all information regarding the history of Turkish Cypriots through presentations and animations in an interactive, digital and audio-visual environment. The Cyprus Turkish National History Museum organized the “Dr. Fazıl Küçük and National Struggle” exhibition to make the existence of Turkish Cypriots better known across the world. Within this frame, the exhibition features artworks created by our country’s talented artists. Paintings, sculptures, ceramics, photographs reflecting Dr. Fazıl Küçük and the years of national struggle and the objects specific to those years will be the core collection of the exhibition. The exhibition will also be held in Turkic countries later and this will provide opportunity for us to make not only the Turkish Cypriots struggle for existence but also the Turkish Cypriot identity better understood across the world” said he.

Underlining that opening the exhibition in 14 Turkic countries was of importance in terms of making our country’s artists known in those countries, Professor Ozkul stated that the friendship that established via bonds of love with the Turkic World would be strengthened through arts.
