
The economic, psychological and legal dimensions of violence against women will be discussed at the “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women” panel to be held by Near East University Gender Research and Application Center (TOCAM) on November 25th. The panel, which will start at 09:00 at the Orange Hall of the Faculty of Communication at Near East University, will be open to the public.
The “International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women”, declared by the UN General Assembly on November 25th, 1999, aims to raise awareness in society against violence against women.

The panel, which aims to raise social awareness about violence against women, will be held under the moderation of TOCAM President Assoc. Prof. Dr. İzlem Kanlı. In the panel to be held in five sessions, the Chair of the Human Rights Committee of the Turkish Bar Association of the Cyprus and Council member, Attorney Aslı Murat, will make a presentation titled “Antidote to Violence: The Struggle for Gender Equality and Legal Tools.” Dr. Ömür Yılmaz, the Coordinator of the Community Studies and Women’s Shelter of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality, will address the topic of “Protection and Support Services in the Combat of Violence Against Women.”
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Meryem Karaaziz, Department of Psychology, Faculty of Arts and Sciences, Near East University, will address the “Psychological Dimension of Violence Against Women,” while Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ayten Erçoban Evren, Faculty of Law and TOCAM Center Vice President, will deliver her speech on “Legal Approaches and Social Transformation in Breaking Out of the Spiral of Violence.” The panel will also feature presentations by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tijen Zeybek who will touch on the topic of “Looking at Violence Against Women from Poverty Perspective.”
