Double Award for the Young Artist from the Near East!

Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design research assistant Mert Şardu was deemed worthy of the “Achievement Award” with his work titled “The Goddess’s Dreams” in the “State Young Artists Competition and Exhibition” of the Department of Culture, and he also won the Department of Culture’s Special Award with his work titled “Hecate”.

The results of the “State Young Artists Competition and Exhibition” organized by the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus Department of Culture for the 13th time this year to encourage young artists have been announced. In the competition, Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design research assistant Mert Şardu achieved great success and was deemed worthy of two awards.

Six artists participated in the competition, which was opened to 3D works as well as 2D works for the first time, with a total of 13 works. Mert Şardu’s works stood out among the works evaluated according to the criteria based on originality, creativity, conceptual depth and technical skill during the competition process. The artist was deemed worthy of the “Achievement Award” for her work “The Goddess’s Dreams” and won the Department of Culture Special Award for her work “Hecate”.


The award ceremony and exhibition will be held in Famagusta on May 19!

In the selection committee of the competition, which included İnci Kansu, Mümine Özdemirağ Yağlı, Nilgün Güney, Osman Keten, Türksal İnce and Zehra Şonya, the works that won awards as well as the works deemed worthy of exhibition will meet with art lovers. The works to be exhibited in the exhibition to be opened in Mağusa on May 19 were selected considering originality, creativity, conceptual depth and the use of techniques and materials.
