Near East University’s long distance swimmer Doğukan Ulaç has achieved an outstanding success by ranking the top in 18-24 age-groups and the second place in the general classification of the 2017 Bosphorus Cross Continental Swim which is considered as the world's best open water swimming event.

According to the info released by the Near East University Sports Club, more than 2,200 swimmers participated in the Samsung Cross-Continental Swimming Race from Asia to Europe across the Bosphorus Strait in Istanbul.

On 23 July, 2017, 2,277 swimmers from 49 countries took over the 6.5 km course, which started at Kanlica pier on the Asian side and ended at Kurucesme on the European side. The ranking of swimmers were determined by chips connected to their feet. NEU's swimmer Doğukan Ulaç completed the 6.5 km course in 52:21 seconds and ranked the second place in men's category. He also ranked the top in 18-24 age category among Turkish swimmers.

Success coming with self-discipline....

Sharing his feelings after his outstanding achievement, Doğukan Ulaç expressed his pride and happiness by underlining the crucial role of self discipline: "There are many factors that can contribute to achievement but self-discipline is the only one that begets sustainable and long term success. I have prepared by working hard through a well disciplined program. As a part of the Near East family, I am very happy for myself, for my family and for my country for realizing such a success. I thank everyone who has contributed to my achievement. My next goal is the Turkish National Team and the Olympics” said he.
