Doctors of future proudly and enthusiastically took their first steps into their professions at the Near East University Faculty of Medicine’s 2025-2026 Fall Semester White Coat Ceremony. At the ceremony held in front of the faculty, students put on their white coats in front of their families and professors, making a meaningful start to their medical careers.
The ceremony began with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem. Opening remarks were delivered by Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy and Near East University Faculty of Medicine Dean Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan. Following the speeches, the first-year students recited the Student Oath, accompanied by Dean Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan, marking a meaningful and unforgettable start to their careers.
Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy: “May the determination, idealism, and love for humanity beneath your white coats always illuminate your path.”
Beginning his speech by emphasizing that the medical profession represents the ideal of serving humanity, Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Umut Aksoy said, “Today, by putting on your white coats, you are taking your first steps into the world of medicine. This coat symbolizes service to humanity, commitment to ethical values, and the awareness of responsibility that comes with being a doctor. Every time you wear it, you will be reminded of the value of touching human lives.”
Prof. Dr. Aksoy emphasized that medical education is not just about acquiring knowledge, but it also fosters thinking, questioning, and a perspective that values people. He stated that the Near East University Faculty of Medicine educates its students to be responsible physicians with this awareness.
Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan: “You will contribute to universal knowledge and shape health policies.”
Recalling the faculty’s 18th anniversary, Dean of the Near East University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan said, “As the Near East University Faculty of Medicine, our fundamental goal is to train physicians who serve humanity with their knowledge and skills by implementing undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education in the most effective way.”
Prof. Dr. Mocan highlighted the Near East University Faculty of Medicine’s strong academic structure, encompassing 39 departments, and its distinguished faculty, which provides medical education in Turkish and English. She also emphasized the significant contribution of the modern Near East University Hospital to the educational process.
Prof. Dr. Mocan said, “Our graduates will always prioritize preventive medicine and public health, contributing to universal knowledge through their research in the field of health and shaping future health policies.” At the end of her speech, she addressed the families: “Your children are now our children, too. You raised them with love, and we will provide them with a profession and broaden their worldviews and horizons.”
