At the press conference held at the Near East University Hospital, the latest developments regarding the 3rd President of the TRNC Dr. Derviş Eroğlu's health were shared with the press. Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen and the cardiovascular surgery team including Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz, Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem, Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu and Anesthesiologist Dr. Yeşim Taşeli made statements at the press conference on Dr. Derviş Eroğlu's surgery process and his general health.

Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen first gave information about the health status and treatment process of Dr. Derviş Eroğlu who has been treated at the Near East University Hospital for 10 days. Following Prof. Dr. Yenen, Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz gave information about the Carotid Surgery performed today.

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen: “There is no danger to our President's life.”
Reminding that they have hosted Derviş Eroğlu at the Near East University Hospital for 10 days, Near East University Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen said, “We started the treatment of our President, who first applied to our hospital with complaints related to hypertension, by controlling his blood pressure. Then, to regulate the heart rhythm, our cardiology team consisting of Prof. Dr. Hamza Duygu, Prof. Dr. Levent Cerit and Dr. Aziz Günsel, inserted an ICD (Implantable Cardioverter Defibrillator) into his heart. In the examinations, a narrowing of up to 80 percent was diagnosed in the carotid artery. It was evaluated by our expert team that removing this narrowing with surgical intervention would give better results. Today, Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz, Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem, Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu and Anesthesiologist Dr. Yeşim Taşeli performed the surgical intervention. A very successful operation was carried out. Our President, Dr. Derviş Eroğlu is currently under control in the intensive care unit and there is no danger to his life."

a member of the team that performed the carotid surgery today, Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz said, “With the operation we performed on our 3rd President Dr.Derviş Eroğlu, the inside of the carotid artery was successfully cleaned. Dr. Derviş Eroğlu had previously undergone coronary bypass surgery and had an ICD inserted in his heart in our hospital. Therefore, Mr. Eroğlu was in the position of a patient with a very high risk. We had been following this stenosis in the carotid artery for a long time. In the most recent tomography angiography, we determined that this stenosis reached a critical level.”

"We performed a successful surgery that lasted for a total of two hours this morning," saying Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz, further added; “With this surgery, we opened the carotid artery, cleaned the plaques that we can call the calcification causing stenosis, and closed the carotid artery. At the end of the operation, we woke our patient up and checked whether there was any neurological problem.

Stating that during the operation, the anesthesia and surgical team closely followed the brain functions of Dr. Derviş Eroğlu, Prof. Dr. Korkmaz also made statements about the latest situation of Eroğlu. “Mr. Derviş Eroğlu is currently under control in the intensive care unit. He is awake and conscious and able to chat. We will take our President to the normal room at noon tomorrow. We can discharge him after an observation process that will last for 3-4 days."
