
The meeting that brought together the deans of communication faculties from Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Kyrgyzstan in Çanakkale was also attended by the Near East University Faculty of Communication.
The Deans Council of Communication Faculties (İLDEK) convened between May 31 and June 1, 2025, hosted by Çanakkale 18 March University (ÇOMÜ), with the participation of the deans of communication faculties from Turkey, the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Kyrgyzstan. The meeting, which has been hosted by a different university every year since 2000 to contribute to communication education and discuss developments in the field of communication, was also attended by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap.
The opening speech of the meeting was given by the Dean of the Faculty of Communication of 18 March University, Prof. Dr. Hülya Önal said, “Today, we have come together not only as directors of communication faculties, but also as representatives of communication, the most powerful transformative force of our age.”
18 March University Rector Prof. Dr. Cüneyt Erenoğlu stated that communication has become a strategic tool that determines the fate of societies and said, “Bodies such as the Communication Faculties Deans Council carry an important vision and mission not only at the level of education and curriculum, but also in the areas of social responsibility and public interest.”
Çanakkale Governor Assoc. Prof. Dr. Ömer Toraman stated that the rapid change in the field of communication has caused confusion in accessing accurate information and said, “I hope that this council will also provide solutions to these and similar question marks.”
At the end of the meeting, issues such as the current status of communication faculties, structural and academic problems encountered, strategic restructuring steps and the integration of technologies required by the digital age into communication education were discussed.
Near East University Faculty of Communication Dean Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap explained the communication education practices carried out in Northern Cyprus and the activities of the Near East University Faculty of Communication. Prof. Dr. Kasap drew attention to the university’s advanced studies, international accreditation processes and its rise in world university rankings. Stating that Near East University is an important higher education institution that contributes to scientific developments on a global scale, Prof. Dr. Kasap emphasized that the university’s international sphere of influence is expanding day by day.
