‘‘Cyprus Turkish Wedding Culture from the Past to the Present’’ Enchanted the spectators

Students of Near East University Department of Hair Care and Beauty Services held an event titled as ‘‘Cyprus Turkish Wedding Culture from the Past to the Present’’.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the event was held at Near East University Grand Library to which Minister of National Education and Culture Cemal Özyiğit, Member of Parliament Özdemir Berova, Vice Rectors of Near East University Prof. Dr. Şenol Bektaş and Prof. Dr. Murat Kocaoğlu, Head of Vocational School Sezer Kanbul, invitees and guests attended was realised magnificently.

Spectators were taken on a historical ‘flashback’…
It was stated that the event, which was titled as ‘Cyprus Turkish Wedding Culture from the Past to the Present’, was held at the helm of Head of Department of Hair Care and Beauty Services Yeşim Üstün Aksoy and was held within the framework of “graduation project” of students. The event included a folk-dance performance, Cypriot music, wedding gowns worn during 1931 to 1982, alongside traditional clothing called ‘bindallı’ and engagement dresses and hairstyles and makeup used during those days were displayed via a fashion show.

Making a statement regarding the event, Head of Department Yeşim Üstün Aksoy, stated that she was rather proud and happy to make a dream come true-displaying the Cyprus Turkish Wedding Culture. She added that the event was realised as a result of toilsome efforts. Resultantly, it was stated that the spectators were enchanted by what they had seen and felt as if they were taken on a historical ‘flashback’.

Aksoy expressed special thanks to Near East University folk-dance group instructor Üney Bensel; Head of Department of Music Teaching Ertan Nalbantoğlu; Presenter who gave details throughout the fashion show on Cyprus Turkish Wedding Culture Sadiye Desdur; DJ Halil Eren who contributed to the evening with the music he played; Head of Department of Radio, TV Fevzi Kasap, Emine Sivri for realising the presentation and Fatma Özok for the screening of the documentary.

It was stated that the event had ended with the offer of refreshments, all unique to Cyprus, prepared by the Department of Hair Care and Beauty.
