Cypriot Melodies Resonate for Health!

Near East University Department of Music Education students once again brought the healing power of art to the corridors of Near East University Hospital with their “Play for Health” project.

Near East University, ranked among the top 500 universities in the world, continues to integrate art into every aspect of life. The “Play for Health” project, carried out by the Department of Music Education, has been attracting attention with its events since last year. Students, having gained experience in the field, provided enjoyable moments for the audience with their “Cypriot Melodies Piano Concert.”

The event brought together many participants enchanted by the magic of music. Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, along with numerous academics, healthcare professionals, students, and patient relatives, watched the students’ performances with great appreciation.

The concert, held in the foyer area of Near East University Hospital, was coordinated by lecturer Deniz Amcazade. The concert brought an extraordinary atmosphere to the hospital setting. Patients, their relatives, and healthcare workers, taking a short break from their daily hospital routines, experienced emotional and peaceful moments with performances where melodies unique to Cyprus came to life on the piano. Following the concert, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ welcomed the students and congratulated them on their success and efforts.

The Music Education students added color to the stage with their performances of works unique to Cyprus. Arca Akın with “Gelmedin”, Deniz Özkibar with “Dillirga”, Derin Zeki with “Portakal Atışalım”, Eliz Hastunç with “Vaporum Üş Borulu”, Emre Anbar with “Al Yemeni Mor Yemeni”, İsmet Gürmen with “Dolama”, Muzaffer Yeldağ with “Hanaylar Yaptırdım”, Öykü Yaşar with “Leymosun Türküsü”, Sahil Hacımevlüt with “Mağusa Limanı”, Sıla Küçükceren with “Gave İşdim Telveli”, Turgut Makinistoğulları with “Köprüden Geçemedim”, Uğur Bilin with “Ölüm Allahın Emri” and Vedat Çetiner with “Kebapçıların Şişi” offered the audience enjoyable and emotional moments. The concert concluded with lecturer Deniz Amcazade performing “Kıbrısım”.

Thank you for your efforts.” Emphasizing the importance of practice as well as theoretical knowledge in education, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ added, “I wish you to continue to progress with the same passion and determination in the future, and to carry out your artistic work that will add value to our society and humanity.”
