Coordination Offices
Open-Out Courses Coordination Office

It is an undeniable fact that the sharing and generating of information rather than consumption is the main strength of the countries that are influential in the world both economically and politically. Information production and sharing processes trigger, direct and manage the general production of the country in economic terms. The fundamental structure of these processes is universities, which are the primary sources of education and research. Universities are the flagships of the development of a society with the education they provide and the research they conduct. For this reason, universities have to spread their capacity and experience at an optimum level to the society in particular, and to the whole humanity in general, based on the concept of sustainability.

In this direction, universities in developed countries have established practices such as non-degree, auditor and student-at-large programmes in order to disseminate their knowledge, research and experience to the society. Parallel to this, our university has combined these three practices theoretically and practically and restructured it as the Open-Out Courses Coordination Office (Open-Out Courses Coordination Office).

The Open-Out Course System aims to share all the courses offered at our university in the university environment and in cooperation so that the society can gain more knowledge, experience and culture, live together with technology and have expertise in specific fields. In this system, all individuals who want to improve themselves in a certain subject can attend our classes.

With these determined goals, our Coordination Office makes significant contributions to the development of society.

Quality and Accreditation Coordinator

As the demands of students and societies for better quality higher education increase, the quality assurance system has gained importance in higher education. In this context, higher education institutions have determined strategies to implement quality assurance strategies that are formed in accordance with their mission and vision. They have started to implement methodologies for the effective implementation, monitoring and improvement of these strategies.

At our university, which is a dynamic and proactive higher education institution, the efforts to create a better culture continue with increasing momentum. The Near East University Quality and Accreditation Coordination Office is a unit affiliated with the Rector’s Office established to serve this purpose. The duties of the Coordination Office are to support both academic and administrative units in the quality assurance processes carried out in the fields of education and research in our dynamic university, to better operate the planning, control, implementation and precautionary processes, to contribute to the simultaneous execution of the defined processes, to support the commissions/working groups related to quality and accreditation as well as to work for the activation and development of its functions and studies.

Our Coordination Office, which is aware of the need for horizontal structuring of quality processes, aims to work as a transparent and sharing team with all units of our university while fulfilling its duties.

Elective Course Coordinator

In today’s business life, apart from the basic university education, it is generally acknowledged that the education system, which will both expand the perspective of the person and allow them to evaluate their existing knowledge and skills, will make individuals more successful in order to renew themselves and their whole lives. For this purpose, our university has launched a project and within this scope, it has established the Elective Courses Coordination Office so that students can receive the education they want in the fields in which they are interested outside the specific field of interests.

Thanks to this process, our students will now be able to access the courses they want to gain competencies in subjects they are interested in to improve their knowledge and skills, and make a contribution to their business life thus providing them a varied education and a new vision.

There are 2 groups of elective courses according to the education curriculum of our university. The first group is the elective courses in accordance with the curriculum of each department, and the second group is the courses opened directly by our coordinator.

The primary goal of the coordinator is to enable our students to access the courses they want in terms of providing convenience and to gain the knowledge, skills and competencies that they can not only use during their education but also after they graduate.

Common Courses Coordinator

The Common and Elective Courses Coordination Office has been responsible for the coordination of all undergraduate and graduate courses offered on the Near East University campus since 2016. The main purpose of our Coordination Office is to ensure that the courses offered in different faculties/departments, but whose course contents largely overlap, are prepared and given by experts in their fields. Course contents and evaluations are prepared in consultation with the departments whose students are taking the course, and it is possible to increase the quality of our course programmes during the accreditation processes and to offer courses to meet the needs of the students given by subject experts. All Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Foreign Languages courses in the undergraduate programmes of our faculties are organized and opened by the Common Courses Coordinator.

All of our compulsory common courses such as Atatürk's Principles and History of Revolution in undergraduate degrees, Atatürk's Principles and Revolution History for Foreigners, Turkish, Turkish for Foreigners, Information Technologies and Foreign Language (English) are available from the student portal of our Distance Learning and Information Technologies Centre (uzem. neu.edu.tr). The exemption exams that our students can take during the initial registration for these courses are also organised by our E-exam Coordinator, which is affiliated with the Common Courses Coordinator. At the graduate level, the Research Methods and Ethics course, which is compulsory in all our graduate programmes, and the Education for Learning courses, which are compulsory in our doctorate programmes, are also organized by the Common Courses Coordinator.

In addition to the coordination of our common courses opened throughout the campus, in line with the proposal of the European Union Commission that at least 25% of all undergraduate programmes should be comprised of elective courses in the context of higher education standards and qualification studies, in-field and non-field electives have emerged throughout the campus. It also aims to deliver the courses to our students in a coordinated manner by opening them to different faculties. During this process, the compulsory courses of our faculties can be offered to other faculties as elective, contributing to the development of our students' visions and strengthening their interdisciplinary networks.
