A protocol signed between the Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences and the Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association gives way to establishe a partnership for cooperation in education, scientific research, project development, and community outreach within the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation.
Near East University—ranked among the world’s top 500 universities—has added another collaboration to its list of initiatives supporting education, research, and professional development in physiotherapy and rehabilitation. An “Education, Research, and Project Cooperation Protocol” was signed between the Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences and the Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association.
The protocol aims to establish sustainable cooperation in health sciences, particularly in physiotherapy and rehabilitation, covering education, scientific research, community outreach, and project development activities. The partnership will facilitate professional and continuing education programs, scientific meetings, joint research, and national and international project applications, alongside efforts focused on scientific publication and knowledge sharing.
In addition to field experience, mentoring, career guidance, and volunteer activities designed to support students’ professional development, the collaboration will drive social responsibility and awareness-raising initiatives in areas such as preventive health, healthy aging, disability, accessibility, physical activity, and community-based rehabilitation. By combining academic knowledge with professional experience, the parties will develop joint training programs and projects to share the latest scientific advancements and clinical practices in physiotherapy and rehabilitation with both professionals and students. The protocol formalizing this cooperation was signed by the Dean of the Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences, Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören and Dr. Batuhan İ. Dericioğlu, President of the Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association.

Prof. Dr. Adile Öniz Özgören, Dean of the Near East University Faculty of Health Sciences, stated that the protocol represents a significant step in bridging academic knowledge with professional practice in the field of physiotherapy and rehabilitation. Prof. Dr. Özgören highlighted that education and research activities could be further enhanced through strong collaborations established with professional organizations. Prof. Dr. Özgören expressed that the implementation of joint scientific research and projects would make substantial contributions to the field along with the field experiences and practical work that support students’ professional development.
Dr. Batuhan İ. Dericioğlu, President of the Turkish Cypriot Physiotherapists Association, emphasized the value of this collaboration for the advancement of the physiotherapy profession and for enabling practitioners to keep pace with current scientific and clinical developments. Dr. Dericioğlu noted that the partnership between the university and the professional association would not only contribute to students’ professional growth but also pave the way for the development of scientific research, professional training programs, and initiatives aimed at public health.
