Near East University Hospital performs coronary bypass operations as well as heart valve, heart holes and heart tumors operations with the closed method applied through mini incisions.

Until recently, open coronary bypass surgeries, which were performed by cutting the breastbone in the middle, are now being replaced by mini-incision surgeries, also known as the closed method. Along with the minimally invasive heart surgeries (heart valve, heart holes, heart tumors) that have been performed at the Near East University Hospital for many years, coronary bypass surgeries are now performed through mini incisions. Thus, the patients stay in the intensive care unit and the recovery time is shortened. This difficult process is overcome more quickly, painlessly and comfortably.

Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz: “Coronary bypass surgeries will now be performed through mini incisions.”
Near East University Hospital Cardiovascular Surgeon Prof. Dr. Aşkın Ali Korkmaz made statements about minimally invasive heart surgery. Stating that the coronary operations of heart valves, heart hole (ASD) and heart tumors have been successfully carried out for years at the Near East University Hospital with a team including Prof. Dr. Barçın Özcem and Assist. Prof. Dr. Özlem Balcıoğlu Özlem Balcıoğlu, Prof. Dr. Korkmaz said Coronary bypass surgeries will now be performed through mini incisions by the left breast whereas .

It is possible to return to normal life in 15 days with heart surgeries performed through mini incisions.
Minimally invasive heart surgeries, which require technological equipment and physician experience, provide many advantages for the patient. Thanks to the surgeries performed through incisions varying between approximately 4-6 cm with less bone and tissue damage, shorter hospitalization, less infection and lower bleeding risk. Patient comfort increases with less pain and smaller scarring.

While returning to daily life takes a long time like 1.5 months in heart surgeries performed by cutting the breastbone with the traditional method, it is possible to be discharged within 4-5 days and return to daily life within 10-15 days in mini-bypass surgeries.

Stating that many patients who cannot afford to take a long break from their working life due to their jobs, take life risks by postponing their surgery or prefer balloon-stent interventions instead of surgery, which will be much more beneficial in the long run. Prof. Dr. Askin Ali Korkmaz says that mini-bypass surgeries provide almost a lifetime of protection.
