“Champion Angels” were commemorated once again at the “Interdisciplinary Community Service Workshop”, which brought together NGO representatives and academicians at Near East University

The “Interdisciplinary Community Service Workshop”, organized in cooperation with Near East University Social Research Development Center and Atatürk Faculty of Education, was held with the intense participation of NGO representatives, academicians and students. The workshop started with a moment of silence and the National Anthem, and then information and experience were shared on the development, implementation and dissemination of community service projects.

Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, President of the Association of Keeping Champion Angels Alive, and Bahire Çoşkuner Doğru, President of the Cyprus Hearing and Speech Impaired Foundation attended as invited speakers to the workshop, which was also attended by many academicians and members of non-governmental organizations who are experts in their fields. Both speakers emphasized the importance of social service in their presentations and shared their experiences in their fields with the participants. In the presentations, various aspects of community service projects were discussed and it was emphasized that social projects should be increased.

A short film called “Bamboo” about hearing and speech impaired people was also screened at the workshop. After the film screening, the film was assessed by Atakan Bayraktaroğlu from Famagusta Special Education and Job Training School and Dr. Emirali Evcimen together with the participants

At the workshop, the names of the students, teachers and parents who lost their lives at Isias Hotel on February 6 were read one by one. Also in the workshop, Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education students presented their own hand-printed banner with the words ‘Champion Angels’ to Ruşen Yücesoylu Karakaya, President of the Association of Keeping Champion Angels Alive.

During the workshop, which was held in eight sessions, many issues aimed at finding solutions to social problems and improving the quality of life of various segments of society were discussed. In the workshop, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatoş Miralay made a presentation titled “Art Education for Individuals with Special Needs – I Learn with Art”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fatma Köprülü spoke on the topic “I am Learning to Live with the Earthquake”, Dr. Neriman Soykunt made a presentation titled “Let’s Get to Know Instruments Project, Zümrütköy Primary School and Alayköy Primary School” and “Let’s Green Nature Project, Alayköy Primary School”, as well as Assoc. Prof. Dr. İpek Danju’s presentation titled Environmental Education-Tree Planting Activity”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yasemin Sorakın’s “Child Protection Visit” and “We Play Colorful Games” presentations were made. Also, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Didem İşlek’s “Developing Environmental Consciousness at Elemantar Schools” and “Pet Lack Awareness”, Specialist Ayşe Öztoprak’s “Happy Children. “Unforgettable Children’s Day”, and Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özay Önoral’s presentation titled “Fun School Garden” were included in the workshop.
