Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Plastic Arts Department Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın’s solo exhibition SuAda (WaterIsland), which draws attention to the protection of wetlands, will be open to visitors until October 18.

Near East University Faculty of Fine Arts and Design Plastic Arts Department Head Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın’s sixth solo exhibition “SuAda” has opened its doors to visitors at İsmet Vehit Güney Exhibition Hall in Nicosia. The artist emphasizes the danger of disappearing wetlands with his “SuAda” exhibition, which consists of works aiming to draw attention to the problem of drought caused by global warming.

Inspired by the natural landscapes in the ponds of Cyprus, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın brings together 24 works he created using the linoleum printing technique with art lovers in the exhibition. The works bring together the vegetation, architectural structures and historical ruins around the Cyprus ponds. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın interprets the elegance of nature with an abstract approach, offering the viewer a different perspective.

The SuAda exhibition, consisting of the artist’s works that offer a new perspective on the rich ecosystem of Cyprus, can be visited free of charge until October 18. The exhibition will be open between 08.30 – 15.30 on weekdays.

24 works inspired from the Cyprus ponds and their surroundings!

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın included his works titled “Aheridu”, “Arminou”, “Avlona”, “Dipotamos”, “Evretu”, “Gemikonağı”, “Germasogia”, “Gönyeli”, “Kalavasos”, “Kanlıköy”, “Kiti”, “Kukla”, “Lefke”, “Limni”, “Magunda”, “Mavrokolimpos”, “Miamilya”, “Panağra”, “Polemidya”, “Sygkrasi”, “Tamassos”, “Tuz Gölü”, “Uzundere”, “Vyzakia” in his exhibition. The artist, who depicted 48 ponds and dams located throughout Cyprus, featured 24 of his works in the exhibition. The artist, who gave his works the original names of the ponds on the map of Cyprus, also reflected cultural, historical and ecological elements such as plants, birds, mosques and bridges found around wetlands in his painting compositions.

Who is Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın?

Completing his doctoral thesis titled “Analysis of Cyprus Archaeological Cylinder Seals and Their Reflection in Printmaking”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın continues to draw attention with his works centered on the island of Cyprus.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yazgın, who is the Head of the Department of Plastic Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Near East University, has introduced his works to art lovers with five solo exhibitions and many group exhibitions throughout his career.

Retired from the Atatürk Teachers Academy in 2016, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın was one of two painters assigned to represent the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus at the TÜYAP International Art Fair in 2018. His publications are the books titled “Art Education Method”, “Calligraphy Handbook”, “Art Education Method”, “Calligraphy Techniques” and “Communication in Education”. Continuing his artistic and academic studies together, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Yücel Yazgın serves as the Head of the Department of Plastic Arts at the Faculty of Fine Arts and Design at Near East University.
