As part of the Joint Commission International (JCI) procedures, a fire drill was jointly carried out at the Near East University Hospital and NEU Faculty and Hospital of Dentistry co-ordinately with the Civil Defence Organisation, Nicosia District Office, as Blue and Pink codes (hospital emergency codes).

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Head of NEU Security and Occupational Health and Safety Talat Ürer, made a statement regarding the matter and stated that the personnel closely followed instructions given to them as part of their education and training and successfully evacuated the buildings rapidly and effectively.

A stranded person in the building was brought down from the roof with a stretcher...
Later, a personnel stranded in the building was successfully brought down with a stretcher, via the roof, and was sent to a health institution. Furthermore, the fire caused by bottled gas at the parking area of the Faculty of Health Sciences was put out and demonstrations were made to illustrate what needs to be done under those circumstances. It was pointed out that this event was curiously followed by students of other faculties.

Subsequent to the fire drill, Near East University Security Manager, Talat Ürer, Specialist on Occupational Health and Safety, made a statement to the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University and stated that events such as the one completed will be continuing. He added that the personnel were very happy to participate in the event. He added that all the relevant measures were taken and all difficult situations could be handled. Moreover, he emphasised his belief that sharing information was vital and necessary to increase awareness on the topic. He ended his words by especially thanking the Non-Governmental Civil Organisation for their full support and assistance throughout the event.
