As part of the Equal Opportunities Project, Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman made observations at the Educational Courses initiated at the Near East University

Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, Tufan Erhürman, made observations at the Near East University of the educational courses which were initiated as part of the protocol signed with the Near East University to offer courses to successful students pursing their education at state schools. The educational courses are to last throughout the summer for the purpose of providing equal opportunities in education.

It was stated that Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman visited the Faculty of Nursing at Near East University to make observations of the educational courses provided to successful students who normally study at state schools.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman was accompanied by Executive Clerk Mustafa Ergüven, Prime Ministry Scientific Consultant Haldun Yücel and Prime Ministry Social Responsibility Consultant Umure Örs. It was also pointed out that Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University Assoc. Prof Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Deputy Chair of the Board of Trustees Assoc. Prof Dr. Murat Tüzünkan and Head of Near East Institute Assoc. Prof Dr. Umut Koldaş hosted the above mentioned visiting committee from the Prime Ministry.

Furthermore, details were provided that the “Equal Educational Opportunities Project” was jointly started by the Department of Youth, Prime Ministry and Near East University and a protocol was signed for this purpose. Press release was provided to inform that the Prime Minister of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus had paid a visit to the Near East University to see how the educational courses were going for the successful students studying at the state schools first hand. Moreover, it was stated that the courses were applied courses at the laboratories of NEU Faculty of Nursing; including information and training on first aid and emergency. It was pointed out that during his visit, Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman had conversations with the students to take the courses throughout the summer and obtained information regarding the content of the courses to be provided.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel: “We will be offering much different opportunities in the near future!”
Making a statement during the briefing, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East University Assoc. Prof Dr İrfan S. Günsel stated that they, as the Near East University, were rather pleased to support the project and added that the NEU would be providing much different opportunities for the students next year.

He further asserted that these courses were significant for the students in terms of their personal development and planning for their careers in the future. Assoc. Prof Dr İrfan S. Günsel added that, as part of the project initiated by the Prime Ministry, they were very pleased to offer educational service throughout the summer to successful students pursuing their education at the state/public schools; offering them equal educational opportunities aimed at the protocol signed. He stated that these students were given the chance to meet the NEU academicians, work together and with the contribution of the summer courses, they were offering the students a chance to choose their professions to be in the future. Assoc. Prof Dr İrfan S. Günsel emphasized that the summer courses offered will be further developed and improved so as to provide much more opportunities for these students. He ended his words by wishing the best of luck to all the students attending the summer educational courses this year.

Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman made a statement after his visit to the Near East University and said that the project was first initiated by the Department of Youth and the Prime Ministry. He particularly thanked the Near East University for providing such great support to the Equal Educational Opportunities Project.

In addition to the above, the educational courses to be offered to the successful students studying at public schools was a great opportunity for them as, first of all, it was a good chance to work with academicians and also spend their summer holidays efficiently. Prime Minister Tufan Erhürman, further added that they were planning to keep the courses running during the winter and students could do courses at Near East University Foreign languages, gastronomy and manny other fields and get to know these professions much better before making their final decisions for their on careers.

Prime Minister Erhürman ended his words by expressing how pleased he was of the visit to the Near East University and explained that with the Equal educational opportunities project they will be continuing to offer equal educational opportunities with the support of universities. He expressed gratitude to Near East University and Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Günsel and expressed his wish to continue to offer these courses in the afternoons during the winter. He expressed that he perceived the summer courses as orientation courses and hoped and wished to keep the courses running during the winter as well.
