All members of the TRNC that are experts in earthquakes will meet at the panel to be held at the Near East University on 8 March

Academicians, chamber presidents and earthquake experts will develop a road map for the TRNC’s fight against earthquakes at the “Cyprus Earthquake Facts and What to Do” panel to be held on March 8 at the Near East University. The panel, which will be open to the press and the public, will also be broadcast live on the official YouTube account of Near East University.

Hosted by Near East University Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering, at the panel to be held at the Prof. Dr. Ümit Hassan Republic Hall of the Grand Library, the earthquake reality of Cyprus will be discussed and a road map will be developed depending on the needs. The opening speeches of the panel to be held on March 8 will be made by Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects Chamber President Gürkan Yağcıoğlu and Dean of Near East University Faculty of Civil and Environmental Engineering Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş. The panel, which will be completed in two sessions after the opening speeches, will continue all day.


All earthquake experts of the TRNC will meet at this panel!
In the first session of the panel to be chaired by Prof. Dr. Hüseyin Gökçekuş, presentations will be made as follows; Prof. Dr. Salih Saner “Cyprus Region Earthquake Zones”; Head of Earth Sciences Chamber Oğuz Vadilili “Cyprus and Earthquake”; Assist. Prof. Dr. İsmail Safkan “Earthquake Hazard of Buildings in Cyprus”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Behçet Öznacar “Disaster Management of TRNC”, TRNC Civil Defense Organization Presidency Training Branch Manager Yusuf Eker “Earthquake Evaluation in the Light of TRNC Disaster Response Plan” and TRNC Civil Defense Organization Iskele Regional Director Cemal Betmezoğlu “Civil Defense Organization Presidency Disaster Combat Operations”.


In the second session to be held under the chairmanship of Near East University Faculty of Engineering Lecturer Prof. Dr. Salih Saner, presentations will be made as follows; Chairman of the Near East University Earthquake and Soil Research and Evaluation Center Prof. Dr. Cavit Atalar “Cyprus Earthquakes and Grounds”; Secretary General of the Chamber of Civil Engineers and METU NCC Lecturer Assist. Prof. Dr. Abdullah Ekinci “North Cyprus Soils and Behaviors Under the Impact of Earthquake”, Dr. Hilmi Dindar “Evaluation of Earthquake-Soil Interaction for Northern Cyprus with Geophysical In-Site Measurements”, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Rifat Reşatoğlu “Defects Observed in Reinforced Concrete Structures, Damage Types and Causes”, Prof. Dr. Zehra Çağnan “Current Probabilistic Earthquake Hazard Studies of the North East Mediterranean Earthquake Hazard”, Lecturer Hüdaverdi Tozan “Determining the Earthquake Performance of Existing Buildings, Strengthening Decisions and Methods” and Dr. Mahdi Azizi “Using Vibration Control Systems in Buildings”.
