The address of the first of the 6 primary schools that the Günsel Family decided to build in each of the 6 districts of the TRNC and hand it over to the Ministry of National Education and Culture Department of Primary Education was decided. The fully-equipped primary school to be built on 14 decares of land in Gönyeli Yenikent area will have a capacity of 500 students. The land where the school will be built was delivered by the Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East Enterprises with a ceremony held on the land of the construction area.

A protocol was signed between the Ministry of National Education and Culture and the Near East Enterprises on January 19, 2021, for the schools that the Günsel Family decided to build in Nicosia, Famagusta, Kyrenia, Güzelyurt, İskele and Lefke and hand them over to the Directorate of Primary Education Department of the Ministry of National Education and Culture. With the delivery of the land, the address of the school to be built by the Near East Enterprises in Nicosia became evident as Gönyeli Yenikent. The locations of the schools to be built in other districts are expected to be announced in the coming period.

At the ceremony, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu and NEU Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel made statements.

Starting his speech with the words “Today we are taking the first concrete step for the 6 primary school projects that the Günsel Family will bring into life for the children of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus”, Minister of National Education and Culture Olgun Amcaoğlu said that the school to be built on 14 decares of land in Gönyeli Yenikent Municipality will have a capacity to educate 500 students. Minister Amcaoğlu, addressing to Chairman of the Board of Trustees of Near East Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, said “This step you have taken is a signal flare that will enlighten the future for us. I would like to thank our business people who are devoted to their country, for leading the way to strengthen the future of our country and to stand by the state.”

The Chairman of the NEU Board of Trustees, Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, began his statement with the words “Investment in the education of the country is an investment in its future”.
