Near East University, which is among the best universities in the world in 7 categories in the list announced by Times Higher Education last week, also made its mark in the ranking announced by Shanghai Ranking. In the list, Near East University was listed among the world’s top 500 universities in the field of “Electrical and Electronics Engineering” and among the world’s top 400 universities in the field of “Physics”. Near East University, the only university from the TRNC included in the research, was among the top two universities in Turkey in “Physics” and among the top three universities in “Electrical-Electronics Engineering”.

The “2023 Global Ranking of Academic Subjects” ranking, which is announced every year by Shanghai Ranking and evaluates the academic success of universities around the world, has been announced. Near East University was again among the best in Shanghai Ranking’s list in the fields of “Physics” and “Engineering”, where it was shown among the top 300 universities in the world in the list announced by Times Higher Education last week.

Near East University, which is listed among the world’s top 500 universities in the field of “Electrical and Electronics Engineering” and among the world’s top 400 universities in the field of “Physics”, became the only TRNC university that succeeded in being on the list in both categories. Near East University, which is among the top three universities in Turkey along with Koç and Bilkent universities in the field of “Electrical-Electronics Engineering”, was also among the top two in Turkey in the field of “Physics”.

Reminding that Near East University is listed among the best universities in the world by many higher education rating institutions as well as Times Higher Education, Near East Enterprises Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “In the global ranking announced by Shanghai Ranking, we were listed among the world’s top 500 universities in the field of ‘Electrical-Electronics Engineering’ and among the world’s top 400 universities in the field of ‘Physics’.”

Prof. Dr. Günsel said that this result is a result of Near East University’s international collaborations, especially with CERN, and the transformation of its capabilities into scientific productivity. Prof. Dr. Günsel said, “I congratulate our professors who have played a major role in this success with their highly successful scientific studies.”

Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ described their place among the world’s best universities in the fields of ‘Electrical-Electronics Engineering’ and ‘Physics’ in Times Higher Education’s and Shanghai Ranking’s lists as “a result of the qualified publications and projects they have produced with their high research capabilities”.

Emphasizing that Near East University has made many investments in the field of basic sciences with its effective research centers, qualified academic staff, international collaborations and support for high-quality research projects, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “The successful results we achieved in the world rankings are a natural result of this systematic work.”

Emphasizing that it is necessary to meet very challenging criteria to be included in Shanghai Ranking’s, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “We represent our country as the only university from the TRNC in the list announced by Shanghai Ranking.
