492 faculty members of Near East University, which has 3 academicians among the top 500 scientists in the world, have put their names to the “World’s Best Scientists” ranking published by AD Scientific Index!
One of the most determining aspects of a university’s quality of education and scientific productivity is undoubtedly the quality of its academicians. Near East University, which has been the most preferred university in Northern Cyprus for the last eight years without exception, stands out with the qualifications of its academicians.
The “World’s Best Scientists” ranking published by AD Scientific Index also reveals this. In the study, which ranks more than 2.1 million scientists from 219 countries, 9 academicians from Near East University are in the top 3 percent worldwide. Near East University, which has 30 academicians in the 10 percent segment worldwide, has 492 academicians among the best scientists in the world.
The study includes a total of 1,348 academicians from universities in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. Near East University, which has approximately 37 percent of these names, also has 31 names in its staff, which constitute 62 percent of the top 50 academicians in Northern Cyprus.
7 of the top 10 scientists in Northern Cyprus are at Near East University!
According to the study, the top 4 academicians in Northern Cyprus continue their studies at Near East University. Dr. Sercan Şen, Prof. Dr. İsa Dumanoğlu and Prof. Dr. Kerem Cankoçak, who have made a name for themselves in the world with their studies at CERN, and Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Can Başer, one of the few names in the world in the field of pharmacognosy, are among the top four places in the ranking of the best academicians in the TRNC. Near East University academics Prof. Dr. Fadi Al-Turjman, Yasir Waheed and Prof. Dr. Derin Orhon are also among the top 10 academics in the TRNC.
Near East University, which hosts 62 percent of the top 50 scientists in the TRNC, also hosts 49 percent of the top 100 academics in the country and 42.4 percent of the top 250 academics. Near East University academics also produce nearly half of the scientific articles produced by the TRNC universities.

Reminding that Near East University is shown among the best universities in the world by many higher education rating organizations, Near East Formation Board of Trustees Chairman Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel said, “In the rankings published by higher education rating institutions based in England, the United States, China and Turkey, we are shown as the best university in Northern Cyprus and one of the top 3 foundation universities among universities in Turkey. On the other hand, we were shown as the 139th best young university in the world by Times Higher Education. All these results are the result of our respected academic staff, our international collaborations reaching 150 and our research opportunities.”

Stating that Near East University provides education in nearly 500 associate, undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs with 20 faculties, 3 colleges and postgraduate education institutes, Near East University Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “This wide range that we offer to over 20 thousand students from 143 countries is also reflected in the fields of our academicians who are on the list of the world’s best academicians.
