Assist. Prof. Dr. Evrim Ergün; “I named my works "Distance, Quarantine and Protection'”
According to the information given by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of Near East University, artist-academician Evrim Ergün made a statement regarding her works; “As the breakout of the virus, which we could not understand and identify at first, became a serious threat, talking about the concept of social isolation, quarantine and curfew, which was taken as a precaution, increased anxiety in many countries. This unexpected situation, limited sociability, being constantly at home, staying with our loved ones and relatives made us more depressed individuals. On the concept of social isolation, I tried to depict the effects of the process we are in, by naming "Distance, Quarantine and Protection' to my works that I produce by combining the material of jewelry design with epoxy material. In this process where we need each other as social creatures, I think that we have the opportunity to express ourselves and communicate through art by continuing our artistic activities in the home environment, even though we cannot be in the workshop environment.”
Who is Evrim Ergün?
She was born in 1978. She completed her primary, secondary and high school education in Ankara. She completed her undergraduate program at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture in 2000. In 2001, she started to work as a Research Assistant at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture. In 2003, she completed her master's degree at Hacettepe University, Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Sculpture. She worked as a research assistant at Hacettepe University between 2001-2004. She took part in various symposiums and participated in many national and international group exhibitions and biennials. She has held national and international artistic workshops. In 2018, she completed her Ph.D. program at the Department of Art and Design at Near East University. She has been working as a lecturer at Near East University, Faculty of Fine Arts and Design, Department of Plastic Arts since 2006.
