Assoc. Prof. Dr. Mahmut Çerkez ERGOREN was invited to attend the meeting of international “Recent Advances in Rare Disease (RARD 2019) in Colombia.
In recognition of his great contributions to the world literature through his recent scientific studies on rare diseases, Associate Professor Mahmut Çerkez ERGOREN, faculty member at the Medical Biology Department of the Faculty of Medicine of Near East University and the Board Member of the Experimental Health Sciences Research Center (DESAM), was invited to attend the 3rd meeting of international “Recent Advances in Rare Disease: Frequently Misdiagnosed Hereditary Disorders (FREMIDIS)” conference in Colombia.

The Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University released that Associate Professor Mahmut Çerkez ERGOREN was the only scientist from the island of Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean Region that invited to attend the 3rd meeting of international “Recent Advances in Rare Disease: Frequently Misdiagnosed Hereditary Disorders (FREMIDIS)” conference, which brings together only experienced scientists, physicians and clinicians to change expertise and share recent research data and recent advantages concerning rare diseases.

Associate Professor Mahmut Çerkez ERGOREN will contribute to the 3rd international meeting of "RARD 2019: Frequently Misdiagnosed Hereditary Disorders (FREMIDIS)” conference in Bogota, Colombia with his study on "Rare genetic variants in the background of the pathogenesis modulating the clinical phenotype of rare genetic diseases common in Cyprus". He will also present "Unresolved cases", the study that he conducted with international project partners, in a special session.

Associate Professor Mahmut Çerkez ERGOREN stated that he was honored and proud of receiving invitation to such a distinguished meeting within the scope of the scientific results acquired from the studies started two years ago in collaboration with Near East University DESAM and Italian MAGI which is concerned with research and diagnosis of rare genetic diseases.

Voicing his happiness of being instrumental for our country and Near East University to experience this pride, Associate Professor ERGOREN expressed his views: "Considering the still low level of knowledge in that arena of medicine, the complexity of rare diseases and the limited natural history data, it is a must to share and exchange expertise and experiences via such distinguished meetings towards the future of personalized medicine and development of new drugs”.

Underlining the importance of collaboration in scientific studies, Associate Professor ERGOREN states that Rare Diseases Working Group within the body of DESAM continues to conduct scientific studies in collaboration with many academics from various departments of the Faculty of Medicine and other scientists from centers and institutions abroad. "We have expanded our project network with our Italian project partners, many prestigious universities in Turkey and working groups from Singapore" noted he.
