
Awards were given to the winners in the Poster Competition organized by the Near East University Faculty of Communication exclusively for World Water Day!
The results of the “World Water Day Poster Competition” among high schools organized by the Near East University Faculty of Communication within the scope of World Water Day on March 22nd have been concluded. In the competition held with the theme of “The Value of Water and Our Future”, students presented designs that draw attention to the importance of water and the global water crisis.
The award ceremony held in the Orange Hall of the Near East University Faculty of Communication was attended by a large number of participants. The opening speech of the event, which attracted great interest from the high school students and their families participating in the competition, was delivered by the Dean of the Near East University Faculty of Communication Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap and the Director of the General Secondary Education Department of the Ministry of National Education Yusuf İnanıroğlu.
Maria Shetakova from 19 Mayıs Turkish Education College won the first place in the competition, Azra Olkar from Mağusa Vocational High School won the second place, and Nehir Uluerkoç from Atatürk Vocational High School won the third place. The Special Jury Award went to Nil Deniz Seçgen from Bülent Ecevit Anatolian High School.
A prize of 7 thousand TL was presented to the first place winner, 5 thousand TL to the second place winner and 3 thousand TL to the third place winner. Following the awards, certificates of appreciation were presented to the jury members by Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap. At the end of the event, participants went to the exhibition area and had the opportunity to closely examine all the works included in the competition.
Yusuf İnanıroğlu: “Managing the water crisis is not limited to protecting existing water resources.”
Yusuf İnanıroğlu, Director of the General Secondary Education Department of the Ministry of National Education, who started his speech by emphasizing the importance of water, said, “Water is the source of life for all living things. Therefore, its unconscious use threatens the future of the ecosystem. As humanity, we have to act together in protecting water resources, using them efficiently and producing sustainable solutions.”
Yusuf İnanıroğlu, who also mentioned the water supply project from Turkey to Northern Cyprus, known as the Project of the Century, stated that in this context, raising awareness and creating sustainable policies on the efficient use and protection of water will be of great importance. “Managing the water crisis is not limited to protecting existing water resources. At the same time, protecting forest assets and creating new forest areas are also an important part of this process.” said İnanıroğlu, adding, “As the Ministry of National Education, we aim to develop environmental awareness in young generations, raise awareness about water saving and help them gain environmentally friendly habits with the Green Schools Project that we carry out together with our other stakeholders.”
Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap: “Seeing our children’s sensitivity to environmental issues made us all happy.”
Stating that many high schools across the country showed great interest in the competition, Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Dean of the Faculty of Communications of Near East University, said, “Our jury had a hard time in making a choice. Seeing our children’s sensitivity to environmental issues made us all happy.” Emphasizing the importance of water in every area of life, Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap said, “Water is in our lives from the cradle to the grave. However, we consume these resources insensitively. Therefore, such events are very valuable in terms of raising awareness.” Prof. Dr. Kasap also stated that considerably qualified applications were made from all over the island and said, “We had the opportunity to come together with many teachers from our secondary education institutions. We would like to thank everyone who contributed.”
