A Ceremony for the Commemoration of Martyrs and Celebration of the 18th March Çanakkale Victory was held at Near East University

It was stated that the Ceremony for Commemoration of Martyrs and Celebration of 18th March Çanakkale Victory was jointly organized by Near East University Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Turkish Language and Literature; and Atatürk Faculty of Education, Departments of History, Turkish and Social Sciences Teaching and that it was held at the NEU Grand Library, Hall 2. Providing details regarding the ceremony, it was expressed that the ceremony commenced with a one minute silence and playing the national anthem.

Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul: “The Turkish Army proved to the world that Çanakkale is impassable!”
According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, Dean of Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Head of Department of History Teaching Prof. Dr. Ali Efdal Özkul, made an opening speech where he emphasized the significance of the day. He also made evaluations about the history and how Çanakkale was made impassable by the heroic Turkish army.


Assist. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Saraçoğlu: “The Turks have taken their well deserved place within the History of Literature as a nation which wrote an epic.”
Later, a speech was made by the Academic Member of the Department of Turkish Language and Literature, Assist. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Saraçoğlu with his speech titled as “The Victory of Çanakkale”. He provided his evaluations through literary works and told outstanding stories which are told in literary work.

Furthermore, he evaluated poetry pieces which take the form of folk songs. He added that the Turks, as a nation have achieved their well deserved place in history; especially making emphasis on Çanakkale Epic Poem written by Mehmet Akif Ersoy. Assist. Prof. Dr. Erdoğan Saraçoğlu ended his words by stating that the Çanakkale victory was one of the golden links among many epic stories written in the Turkish Literature throughout history.

Subsequent to the speeches, Yiğit Kavrar from the NEU Department of Social Sciences Teaching made a slideshow on the martyrs and victory of Çanakkale. The ceremony ended with the poetry reading by students of NEU Faculty of Arts and Sciences Department of Turkish Language and Literature; and Atatürk Faculty of Education Department of Turkish.
