9th International Photography Days will be held on 2-5 May 2019 on Near East University Campus

A briefing was held regarding the event which the Near East University will be organising, the 9th International Photography Days on 2nd-5th May 2019.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the briefing was held at the orange hall of Faculty of Communication of Near East University and Vice Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Head of Organising Committee Gazi Yüksel, Vice Head of Committee Hikmet Uluçam; alongside Committee Members Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap, Assist. Prof. Dr. Nuran Öze, Asist. Prof. Dr. Ayça Demet Atay, Asist. Prof. Dr. Hakan Karahasan, Asist. Prof. Dr. Pelin Agocuk, Academic Members Ufuk Altunç, Zeyde Yalıner Örek, Research Assistants Fuat Boğaç Evren, Görkem Bulunç and Nargiza Reyimova were present at the briefing.

It was pointed out that during the briefing, Vice Rector of Near East University, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ, Head of Organising Committee of 9th International Photography Days Gazi Yüksel, Organising Committee Member Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap and Vice Head of Organising Committee Hikmet each made statements regarding the event.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ:" We have formed a ‘bridge’ with 14 Different Turkic Countries on Art…"
Providing further details, it was revealed that the opening speech of the briefing was done by Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ where he stated that the vision internalised by the university led to outstanding attainments of the university in education and research. He added that alongside these, the university alsoprioritised national and international events on art as they were fully aware of the significance of events alike.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ further added that during the academic year of 2017-2018, a total of 423 events were held on NEU Campus and all the achievements attained in education and science placed the Near East University among the top universities both in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) and in Turkey. Moreover, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ expressed that the value given to art and museums by Near East University was evident just by considering the latest museum opened by the university, Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts; as an addition to its previously available museums such as Cyprus Car Museum, Museum of Maritime, Herbarium Museum.

He also stressed that they had founded a ‘bridge’ with 14 different Turkic Republics and Communities via art, in addition to hosting artists from these Turkic countries who were hosted on Near East University Campus. Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ expressed his strong belief that this ‘bridge’ is to make a great contribution to the world and to humanity. He ended his words by stressing how excited and proud to be getting ready to hold the 9th International Photography Days on 2-5 May 2019.

Gazi Yüksel: “As a result of 20 Years of accumulated Knowledge and Experience, the NEU has reached the peak…”
Also making a speech, Head of Organising Committee of 9th International Photography Days, Academic Member of Near East University, Gazi Yüksel, expressed that since the date of foundation, the Near East University had accumulated much knowledge and experience; and that these were not limited to science, education and sport but also included the concept of art-which is a notion which contributes to taking a society to contemporary level.

Furthermore, he stated that the photography days was initiated back in 1999 and that t was the oldest continuous event held by the Near East University. Gazi Yüksel added that during 1999-2013, a total of 8 international photography days were held where the work of almost 400 photographers from 19 different countries were displayed. In fact, 203 exhibitions and thousands of photographs were exhibited. It was also pointed out that the photograph artists from Turkey regarded the photography days as the most important platform of the art of photography. He said that as a result of 20 Years of accumulated Knowledge and Experience, the NEU has reached the peak.

The Art of Photography has developed with Academic and Theoretical Structure….
Member of the Organising Committee of the Photography Days Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fevzi Kasap stated that they were rather proud to have come up with the idea of organising this event; and that over 20 years, they had held 8 events. Furthermore, he stated how happy he was to see the evolvement of the event to current status. Moreover, he expressed that this event contributed to the art of photography both academically and theoretically. He ended his words by stating that the academicians who worked on photography also had the opportunity to contribute to knowledge via scientific publications to be made.

The Event hold Significance in terms of promoting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus…
Vice Head of Organising Committee NEU Academic Member Hikmet Uluçam said that the 9th International Photography Days event to be held on 2-5 May 2019 was significant in many ways but especially in terms of promoting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus.

9th International Photography Days…
The application to the 9th International Photography Days, to be held on 2-5 May 2019 at the Faculty of Communication of Near East University, will be completed via the internet. Further information on this event and the application form can be retrieved from [email protected] . Moreover, the photographs to be sent are required to be 300dpi resolution and 50x70 cm in size. The photographs to be exhibited are limited to a minimum of 10 to maximum of 30 in number. The deadline of application to the 9th International Photography Days is revealed as 4th March 2019 and the photographs can have a range of themes such as documentary, experimental, news, nature, macro, nude and image made on computer.
