“9th International Photography Days” started with participation of President Mustafa Akıncı and Mass Opening of 36 Exhibitions

The 9th International Photography Days organized within the scope of the events held by the Cyprus Museum of Modern Arts started with the participation of President Mustafa Akıncı.

According to a press info released by the Near East University Press and Public Relations Directorate, the opening ceremony of the 9th International Photo Days was held at the Near East University Faculty of Communication Exhibition Hall with participation of President Mustafa Akıncı, Near East University Board of Trustees President Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan Suat Günsel, Rector Dr. Ümit Hassan, vice rectors, deans, lecturers, artists and guests.

At the opening of the Photography Days, Vice Rector of Near East University Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ and President Mustafa Akıncı made speeches.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ: Nearly 500 artworks will meet with the art lovers..."
Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Tamer Şalıdağ said that in addition to 36 solo and mixed photography exhibitions, nearly 500 works will be presented to art-lovers in the 9th International Photography Days, which is the only and biggest photography event of Cyprus.

Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ stated that about 100 photographers and academicians from 5 countries participated in this year's organization, and during the event, exhibitions, slide shows and interviews will be carried out, as well as presenting academic papers related to the art of photography...

"What we do is the summary of the unifying power of art..."
Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ stating that in the last 7 months, 33 exhibitions were held at Near East University and 9 exhibitions were presented to art lovers on campus, in total 7 museums will serve for the art lovers, including Cyprus Museum of Modern Art, Cyprus Car Museum, National History Museum, Maritime Museum, Herbarium and Natural History Museum, Knife and Sword Museum.

Defining the breakthroughs of the Near East University with the phrase "Unifying Power of Art", which is a force that rejects all restrictions and limitations, uttered the verse "Galloping from Far Asia, extending to Mediterranean like a mare head, this country is ours".

"We are moving towards with the aim becoming a global information center with science, art and innovation..."
During the last 30 years of this geography, the Near East University has been shining in the minds when education, science, art and innovation concepts are referred, said Prof. Dr. Sanlıdağ. Şanlıdağ said "Since the day it was founded, Near East University has been continuing its academic and innovative activities as a university which has been aiming to become one of the world's top 500 universities competing with other world universities. With 20 Faculties, 6 Institutes, 32 Research and Application Centers, 104 Research and Application Laboratories, Large Library, Super Computer, numerous Scientific Research Projects, over 1200 international publications within one year, and with more than 1000 academicians among whom 1 is a Nobel Prize winner, 2 TUBITAK Science Award winner, 5 among the Turkish Science People Leading Science, we are moving towards a common goal with decisive steps. Vice Rector Şanlıdağ at the end of his speech, expressed his gratitude to Gazi Yüksel, the organizing committee chairman, organizing committee, academicians and artists.


President Akıncı: "The art events showing the development level of a country and held by the Near East University are numerous..."
President Mustafa Akıncı, who stated that culture and arts events were among the subjects of the agenda, congratulated Günsel Family, university administration and lecturers for their frequent activities at the Near East University.

President Akıncı said, "The development of culture and art is beyond the real sense of development. One of the most important issues of development is culture and art besides export figures, inflation rates and tourism figures. This should be regarded in this sense and there is a movement in favor of the cultural and artistic fields in the society, especially in the field of photography." He added that if universities' interest in this issue continues to increase, it will affect the other parts of the society and that this will be a positive development in this issue.

President Mustafa Akıncı stated that the activities on the campus of Near East University are innumerable and wished university outstanding success in its further studies.

After the speeches, the opening ribbon of the 9th International Photography Days was cut.

Exhibitions will be open until May 31, 2019...
