“6th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Educational Reflections – ICIER 2024” held at Near East University brought together participants from TRNC, Turkey, Kazakhstan and China

54 papers were presented at ICIER 2024 held at the Near East University Grand Library, 5 workshops organized within the scope of the conference were completed with more than 100 participants.

The “6th International Conference on Interdisciplinary Educational Reflections – ICIER 2024”, organized in cooperation with Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education and Graduate Education Institute, took place at the Near East University Grand Library.

ICIER 2024, supported by the General Secondary Education Department of the Ministry of National Education and the Education Joint Services Department, was organized with the theme of “Inclusive Education and Accessibility”. ICIER 2024, which was held with intense participation, brought together experts in the field from Turkey, Kazakhstan and China, as well as the TRNC.

At the conference, which emphasized the importance of inclusiveness and accessibility in education, the latest research, innovations and effective implementation strategies in the field were discussed. In the workshop held within the scope of ICIER 2024, where the impact of inclusive and accessible education on the welfare of students and society was discussed, many topics were discussed in the sessions determined in line with the sustainable development goals.

54 paper presentations, 5 workshops and over 100 participants…

During the three-day conference, 54 paper presentations and 5 workshops were held with more than 100 participants. Many online presentations were also made at the conference, where invited speakers in the field of educational sciences attended.

The opening speeches of the conference were made by; Dean of Atatürk Faculty of Education from Near East University, Prof. Dr. Yağmur Çerkez, Director of the Graduate Education Institute, Prof. Dr. K. Hüsnü Can Başer, Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt and TRNC Ministry of National Education General Secondary Education Department Director Cengiz Topel Uzun.

After the opening speeches, firstly Dr. Gainiya Tazhina from Al-Farabi Kazakh National University and Dr. Xiangling Zhang from Beijing Institute of Education, Beijing gave an online presentation as invited participants. Prof. Dr. Ayşe Çakır from the Faculty of Architecture, Design and Fine Arts, Cappadocia University made a presentation titled “Inclusivity in Contemporary Art and Its Reflections on Art Education.”

The workshops attracted great attention…

On the last day of the conference, five different workshops were organized for teachers, academicians and teacher candidates. In the free workshops organized within the scope of ICIER2024, many topics were discussed in the sessions determined in line with the sustainable development goals. In workshops approved by the Ministry of National Education and open to the public, topics titled “Strategic Planning for Inclusive Education”, “Sustainable Development and Education in Practice”, “Interdisciplinary Scientific Research and Scientific Reporting”, “Accessibility and Education”, and “Individual Differences in Learning and Instructional Practices” were shared.


Cengiz Topel Uzun: “I hope this conference will shed light on our education.”

Stating that multi-directional information was exchanged in the workshops at the conference, Cengiz Topel Uzun, Director of the General Secondary Education Department of the TRNC Ministry of National Education, said, “We must carry out studies so that this information is reflected in educational practices.” Stating that new human and student profiles have emerged with the pandemic, Cengiz Topel Uzun emphasized that new methods should be adopted suitable for changing student profiles. Uzun said, “In order to cope with this change, we must continue on our way with well-equipped, knowledge-packed teachers and the right visions. I hope this conference will shed light on our education.” Uzun stated that it is of great importance in education that teacher profiles are up-to-date and adequately equipped.


Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt: “These conferences are an opportunity for us to be scientifically skeptical, questioning and curious.”

Near East University Vice Rector Prof. Dr. Mustafa Kurt stated that such conferences are scientifically questioning and intriguing. At the beginning of his opening speech, he referred to the words of famous French philosopher and literary critic Jacques Derrida and said “Learning also means forgetting what you have learned, doubting and questioning.” Emphasizing that people should update their existing knowledge with alternative new information, Prof. Dr. Kurt said, “Scientific conferences like these give us the privilege of unlearning what we have learned, thanks to the new knowledge and experiences they offer. The information presented and the conversations given are an opportunity for us to be skeptical, questioning and curious, not morally but scientifically. I wish you a productive conference that will make you forget what you know.”


Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Can Başer: “Technology-based skills should be developed based on the philosophy of lifelong learning and modern scientists should be trained.”

Near East University Graduate Education Institute Director Prof. Dr. Hüsnü Can Başer in his speech, emphasized that they aim to develop technology-based skills and train modern scientists based on the philosophy of lifelong learning. Stating that the conference will provide successful gains in various aspects, Prof. Dr. Başer thanked everyone who contributed.


Prof. Dr. Yağmur Çerkez: “We are happy to discuss what can be done about inclusive education and accessibility.”

In his opening speech, Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education Dean Prof. Dr. Yağmur Çerkez emphasized that the conference was organized under the theme of inclusive education and accessibility, and further stated that they aim to remove obstacles in education and ensure everyone has access to quality education with the cooperation of academics from different disciplines. Reminding that this year’s conference theme was determined as “inclusive education and accessibility”, Prof. Dr. Çerkez noted that inclusive education is about ensuring that every individual has equal learning opportunities and accessibility is about removing barriers. Prof. Dr. Çerkez said, “While holding our conference, we are happy to have the opportunity to discuss what can be done to eliminate barriers, expand opportunities and create an environment where every individual can access quality education.”
