The number of articles written as a result of the scientific studies carried out by Near East University, which is by far the most productive university in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, with the annual number of articles exceeding 1.600 bands, has reached 375. Articles related to COVID-19 written by Near East University scientists were published in the most respected Medical Journals of the field such as Lancet, Lancet Microbe, Nature and Journal of Infection.

Near East University, on the one hand, has projects that will generate social benefit in the management of the pandemic process with important projects such as the local PCR Diagnosis and Variant Analysis Kit, protective nasal spray, portable and hospital-type respirators developed in the only laboratory of the TRNC’s Quality Control Program in Molecular Diagnosis-MOTAKK, and on the other hand, conducted several research studies and published their results in important journals.

COVID-19 articles, many of which have been written by making use of artificial intelligence, have a wide range of topics, from the economic aspects of the pandemic to the genetic analysis of the virus, from examining the course of the case in the TRNC to the effectiveness of diagnosis and treatment methods.

Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ: “The studies we have undertaken during the COVID-19 process are of great importance in terms of being a guide for similar pandemics that may occur in the future.”
Stating that they have been conducting scientific research in a multi-faceted way from the first day in order to understand and fight against the virus, COVID-19, which affects the whole world and humanity, and SARS-CoV-2, which causes the pandemic, Prof. Dr. Tamer Şanlıdağ said, “While on the one hand these studies carried out by our scientists turned into projects aimed at managing the COVID-19 process, on the other hand, we shared the results of our studies with the scientific world in order to present them to the service of all humanity.”

Reminding that 51 percent of the articles published by the TRNC universities in 2021 were written by Near East University academics alone, Prof. Dr. Şanlıdağ said, “The studies we have conducted, especially during the COVID-19 process, are of great importance in terms of being a guide for similar pandemics that may occur in the future.”
