Near East University Faculty of Medicine, 2022-2023 academic year opening and “White Shirt Wearing Ceremony” were held at Atatürk Culture and Congress Center with intense participation. 250 doctor candidates who started their medical education this year at the Near East University Faculty of Medicine, which has graduated 1,800 doctors in nine terms so far, took their first steps into the profession by wearing white shirts.

At the ceremony, which started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, Intern Dr. Süleyman Gündüz and Intern Dr. Okan Erdemsiz performed a short music concert for the guests.

In addition to many academicians, Near East University Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Müfit Cemal Yenen and Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Chief Physician Prof. Dr. Nail Bulakbaşı and many physicians attended in the ceremony, where students and their families showed great interest. The opening speech of the ceremony was made by the Founding Dean of the Near East University Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan.

After the speeches, the “Student Oath” was read by Prof. Dr.Gamze Mocan. After the oath was read, the doctor candidates started their medical education by wearing their white shirts.

Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan: “We aim to raise our esteemed students as individuals who are well-informed, competent, honest, and committed to both medicine and universal ethical values, equipped with the ability to solve the problems they face.”
Making the opening speech of the ceremony, Near East University Faculty of Medicine Founding Dean Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan, expressing her excitement for the start of the new academic year, said, “Today we are together at the opening ceremony of the 2022-2023 academic year. Believe me, we are as excited as you, who will wear their white shirts for the first time today.”

Stating that the Near East University Faculty of Medicine was established in 2008, Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan said, “Today is a special day for us as well. We are celebrating the 15th birthday of the Near East University Faculty of Medicine, where we have graduated 1,800 doctors so far.”

“As Near East University Faculty of Medicine, we would like to thank you, our esteemed students. We aim to train you as individuals who are well-informed, competent, honest and committed to both medicine and universal ethical values, equipped with the ability to solve the problems they encounter.” Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan also drew attention to the lifelong learning process in medicine. Prof. Dr. Mocan said, “I’m sure all of you will grow up as highly qualified medical doctors who aim to serve humanity, who are respectful, understanding and responsible towards their patients, who are rational, creative, questioning, researching and free-thinking, who have internalized Atatürk’s principles and revolutions.”

“At the end of your education, you will all graduate from here as general practitioners. Afterward, I am sure that you will come to very good places in the branches you want,” saying Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan also added that they will always be their students on the way to realizing their dreams.

Addressing the students’ families, Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan said, “Your children are our children, too. You have raised them. We, on the other hand, will provide them with professional qualifications and develop their worldview and horizons. We will train physicians who will serve our most valuable asset, our health, and heal patients.”
