2019 Calendar was made with the Artwork of Children with Special Needs created during their Art Therapy

As part of the social responsibility project of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising of Faculty of Communication of Near East University, a calendar for the upcoming new-year has been done with the students of the Algım Special Education Centre.

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the project was realised at Algım Special Education Centre and the first stage of the project involved art therapy and Artist Ozan Özgenler drew sea themed pictures accompanied by music and created a fun environment to the children.

Artist Ozan Özgenler stated that it was the first time they had been involved in an activity such as this and that it was very special for them. He added that children with special needs were rather creative and successful.

It was pointed out that the project was coordinated by the final year student of the Department of Public Relations and Advertising of Faculty of Communication of Near East University, Burçin Acar Ersoy, and the second stage involved using the artwork created to make the 2019 calendar. Furthermore, the pictures drawn by the children were also exhibited at the 3rd Visual Art Exhibition held due to the International Day of Persons with Disability, which is on December 3rd. Subsequent to the exhibition, the 2019 calendar which was made with the sponsorship of Metropol Supermarket was presented to the Mayor of the Nicosia Turkish Municipality, Mehmet Harmancı and Deputy Director General of Telsim Fevzi Tampınar by Burçin Acar and Ufuk Altunç.

Making a statement regarding the matter, Metropol Supermarket CEO Can Ersoy, stated that they were always ready to support meaningful projects alike and that the artworks created by the children were quite successful and creative.

Head of Algım Special Education Centre Evren Karademir expressed many thanks to everyone contributing to the event as this was a great opportunity for the children to be creative in their own fantasy worlds and boost their self-confidences.

Academic Member of Faculty of Communication of Near East University Ufuk Altunç, made a statement and expressed that each year, a different institution was selected to organise artwork with the members; later to utilize the artwork created for the making of the coming new-year. Furthermore, he stated that rather than limiting the awareness to a single day, they were aiming to create awareness on persons with disability throughout the year. He ended his words by stating that this year they had chosen to work with the children at the Algım Special Education Centre to create the 2019 calendar.
