Near East University awarded the title of honorary professor to 2015 Nobel Laurette Prof. Dr. Aziz Sancar who is a scientist, biochemist and molecular biologist awarded the 2015 Nobel Prize in Chemistry for his studies on 'DNA repair and cell cycle' fields and invention called the 'Circadian Time' (rhythmic clock) as well as his significant contributions to scientific world.
According to the press statement made by the Press and Public Relations Directorate of the Near East University, the Founding Rector of the Near East University, Dr. Suat İ. Günsel, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Near East University, Assoc. Prof. Dr. İrfan S. Günsel, Rector of the Near East University, Dr. Umit Hassan, Vice Rectors, Deans, Faculty Members and students attended to the ceremony.
The ceremony started with the reading of the National Anthem and one minute silence in memory of martyrs, and continued with a cinematic demonstration of Aziz Sancar's life.

Professor Dr. Hassan continued, "There is something going on in my mind. Then I will present the honorary title of professor emeritus explaining the reasons of award shortly. We are delighted that his highness has kindly accepted our award. I am both very happy and very emotional as we are presenting such an honorary title to Prof. Sancar. I want to tell this to my students. Please read a few of the speeches made by your teacher, Aziz Sancar. You will see that you are facing such how great a guide he is. In my opinion the Nobel prize is a late payment. Let me say that, you know that there is a word on the universal platform, this word is humanism, you know. It's about being human. And there is humanitarianism as it is said in the west. It means dealing with people in terms of humanity. In other words, dealing with human material and life, or bringing people to the forefront in art is humanism, it is humanitarianism to approach in a humane manner. This is also the basis of the work of our teacher Sancar Sancar, and it is this characteristic that makes him different ".

Professor Sancar is a scholar who is deeply interested in biochemistry, molecular biology, DNA repair, and other positive areas.
The discovery of the whole of this acquis, which is focused on medicine, has brought him to the pioneering scientist rank.
These discoveries are aimed at the recovery of DNA, the ability of man to find healing and fight against diseases or inherent insufficiencies.
Almost all scientific studies of Professor Dr. Sancar are of universal value and thus human-focused. In this regard, Prof. Dr. Sancar, in every sense, will be referred to as a humanist and humanitarian scholar, will always be remembered as a wise person.
As a Nobel Prize Owner, he has always been in discourse in the context of the synthesis of humanistic perspectives and patriotism.
In all these aspects, Prof. Dr. Sancar is also expanding the horizons of the Humanities and will continue to expand further.
Considering the fact that Professor Sancar is equipped with the theoretical qualifications and the fact that he has developed the maxicell technique and its extensions and provided terminological contributions to the world literatures, all these give us the opportunity to methodologically regard him as our Teacher in the Humanities and in the History of Science.
