200 nurses who graduated from the Near East University Faculty of Nursing took their first steps into the profession by receiving their diplomas in an enthusiastic ceremony

Spring term graduates of the Near East University Faculty of Nursing for the 2022-2023 academic year threw their caps off at the ceremony held at the Near East University Atatürk Culture and Congress Center. The ceremony, where 200 students graduated, was held with intense participation.

The ceremony started with a moment of silence and the singing of the National Anthem, followed by a violin concert by violinist Nina Koçubey. At the ceremony, Near East University Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan and Dean of Near East University Faculty of Nursing Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz, and Moyosore Omotola Afolayan on behalf of the international graduates gave speeches, while Melisa Elveren expressed her feelings on behalf of the students who graduated from the Turkish program.

After the speeches, graduates, who received their diplomas, took the nursing oath accompanied by Near East University Faculty of Nursing Dean Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz and threw away their caps.


Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan: “Graduates of the Faculty of Nursing, you will play an important role in the health sector and take an active part in the process of protecting and improving the health of society.”
Near East University Vice Rector Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan started his speech at the graduation ceremony by saying “Now it’s time to apply the knowledge and experiences you have gained throughout your university life in the real world”.

Referring to the sanctity of the nursing profession, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan said, “As a graduate of the Faculty of Nursing, you will play an important role in the health sector and take an active part in the process of protecting and improving the health of society. You will take on great responsibilities such as saving lives, helping patients recover and contributing to the healthcare system.”

“You have been trained in a special field that can transform your theoretical knowledge into clinical practice and impact people’s lives in a meaningful way. You will be qualified healthcare professionals who can empathize with their patients, support them and do their best to meet their needs. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Murat Tüzünkan said, “Sometimes a handshake, sometimes a smile or just listening can make a big difference for your patients. For this reason, I would like to emphasize that you always protect your values such as respect and compassion for people and that you stick to the standards of medical ethics and professional ethics.”


Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz: “During your education, you also experienced extraordinary situations such as pandemics and earthquakes. You have become conscious by seeing the great role of the nursing profession on people.”
Starting his speech at the ceremony by stating that Near East University Faculty of Nursing is the first and only nursing faculty in TRNC, Near East University Faculty of Nursing Dean Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz, said “As Near East University Faculty of Nursing, in addition to the world-class education quality we provide at undergraduate and graduate levels, we also contribute to the science of nursing with scientific publications and studies.”

Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz said, “As the Faculty of Nursing, we are making an effort to prepare our students for the future with a well-equipped education by taking the contribution of faculty members from different disciplines of the Near East University, together with all our faculty members.”

Addressing the graduate students, Prof. Dr. Ümran Dal Yılmaz said, “During your education, you have also experienced extraordinary situations such as pandemics and earthquakes. You have become conscious by seeing the great role of the nursing profession on people. Nurses have an increasingly important role in their efforts to solve the country’s health problems. But you are the one who will make the difference. We fully believe that you will serve our profession and humanity in the best way by constantly improving yourself and producing solutions to problems.


Melisa Elveren: “Now it’s time to say goodbye. As we say goodbye to our campus, our teachers, our friends, we know that; This end will be a new beginning.”
Stating that they are happy to complete a long marathon successfully, Melisa Elveren said, “Today, I am also excited about the speaker on behalf of all my friends who graduated successfully. I congratulate all my colleagues and wish them success in their lives.”

“It’s time to say goodbye. Saying goodbye to our campus, our professors and our friends, we know that this end will be a new beginning,” said Melisa Elveren.


Moyosore Omotola Afolayan: “We will bear the scars of every single moment we spent here in our next life.”
Speaking at the graduation ceremony, Moyosore Omotola Afolayan, the valedictorian of the Near East University Faculty of Nursing, started his speech by expressing his happiness and said: “I would like to thank my professors, who have made great contributions to our incredible years of education at the Near East University.” Moyosore Omotola Afolayan, who also thanked his friends and family, said, “We are grateful to each and every person who contributed to this success. We will carry the traces of every moment we spend here in our future lives.”
