2 Significant City Park Projects of Iskele were designed by the Students of the Faculty of Architecture of Near East University

Department of Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture of Near East University designed two significant city park projects for the municipality of Iskele.

According to the press release delivered by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations Office of Near East University, the Department of Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of NEU Faculty of Architecture has rolled up its sleeves to provide contribution to the municipality of Iskele and designed two significant projects. One of the projects is relevant to the design of Recreation Park to be located on 31 decares of almost 133 decares of land, known as Onur Camping, and the other project is relevant to the design of the Forest and Culture Park to be located on 61 decares where the Picnic Site is also situated.

Two significant projects that designed under the supervision of Assistant Professor Buket Asilsoy and faculty members Uzman Selin Laleci and Sinem Yıldırım from the Department of Landscape Architecture of NEU Faculty of Architecture were presented to the Iskele Municipality Reconstruction Unit, Iskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu and members of the municipality council at Iskele Atatürk Culture Center.

Assoc. Prof. Dr. Özge Özden Fuller, the Chairperson of the Department of Landscape Architecture, said that they attached importance on the projects that set an example for the philosophy of nature and sustainable life. Underlining the importance of such projects in ensuring a sustainable development in urban life, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fuller extended their appreciations to the Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu and his team by expressing their pleasure to cooperate with the municipality of Iskele. Expressing their pride in the students of the Department of Landscape Department of Near East University for their outstanding designs as usual, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Fuller extended her thanks to NEU Rector and the Dean of Faculty of Architecture for their unique support encouring them to realize such important projects.

Drawing attention to the crucial role of real life designs in motivating students, the Dean of the Faculty of Architecture of Near East University thanked to the Iskele Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu for his efforts providing the students with this opportunity. Underlining that critical-thinking and approach had a significant role in creating innovative designs to address the needs of contemporary architecture; the Dean stated that they adopted such an approach for ensuring an educational setting for students to enhance their knowledge and talents. He also highlighted that it would be a great motivation for students to put their projects reflecting the critical and innovative approach of contemporary architecture into practice.

In his remarks, Mayor Hasan Sadıkoğlu extended his thanks to the team of the Reconstruction Unit of Iskele Municipality and the Department of Landscape Architecture of the Faculty of Architecture of Near East University for their creating such significant projects in collaboration with them. "Both projects are of great importance as they would be put into practice on lands at critical points that allocated to Iskele and its inhabitants" said he.

Expressing their pride in gaining approximately 200 decares of land on behalf of Iskele and its inhabitants, Mayor Sadıkoğlu underlined that they felt the excitement of putting both projects into practice and bringing two contemporary urban parks into service of Iskele and its inhabitants in particular, and to the people of Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in general. In his final remarks, Mayor Sadıkoğlu extended his appreciations to the Founding Rector Dr. Suat Günsel and Near East Family who were always ready to collaborate with them.
