“1st International Istanbul Kodaly Education Days” was realised with the support of Near East University

With the support of the Hungary Consulate in Istanbul and Hungary Culture Centre and as part of the Marmara University BAKPO L type projects, the 1st International Istanbul Kodaly Education Days was realised at Marmara University and the Academic Member of the Near East University Atatürk Faculty of Education, Department of Music Teaching Prof.Dr. Sibel Çoban acted as the General Director of the event.

The high number of participation from NEU Department of Music Teaching has attracted the attention of other participants at the Kodaly Education Days...

According to the press release issued by the Directorate of Press and Public Relations of Near East University, the scientific board of the event included the Academic Members of the Department of Music Teaching of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Emine K. ÖZTUĞ, Dr. Erkan SÜLÜN and the Head of Department, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertem NALBANTOĞLU. Furthermore, the participation of the 4 undergraduate, 2 Master’s and 2 doctorate degree students from the Department of Music Teaching also drew the attention of participants of the 1st International Istanbul Kodaly Education Days.

It was pointed out that the opening speech of the event was done by the Project Manager Assist. Prof. Dr. Ercan Mertoğlu. This was later followed by the speech done by Project General Coordinator Academic Member of the Doctorate Program in Department of Music Teaching of Near East University Prof. Dr. Sibel Çoban. Additionally, it was stated that he event was completed over four days and that there were 150 participants to the event. As part of the event, a concert was given at the Kadıköy Municipality Yeldeğirmeni Culture Central Concert Hall; a concert consisting of music composed by Hungarian and Turkish composers

Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertem Nalbantoğlu provided information on the application of Kodaly Method as an approach to Children’s Music Education in Northern Cyprus

A panel was held at the Dr. İbrahim Üzümcü Conference Hall and it was moderated by Academic Member of NEU Prof.Dr. Sibel Çoban. At this panel, the Head of Athens Kodaly Conservatory Michalis Patseas provided information on the applications of Kodaly Method as an approach to children’s education in Greece; where as Head of Department of Music Teaching of Atatürk Faculty of Education of Near East University, Assist. Prof. Dr. Ertem Nalbantoğlu, provided information on the application of Kodaly method as an approach to children’s music education in northern Cyprus. Additionally, Academic Member at the Marmara University, Mustafa Avşar gave details on the academic work and research carried out in turkey regarding the Kodaly Method.

Making a statement on the matter, the initiator of the event and Academic Member of Near East University Department of Music Teaching Prof. Dr. Sibel Çoban stated that the 1st International Istanbul Kodály Education Days was realised with success. She added that the event was known world-wide and that she believed that the event will be a source of inspiration to positive developments related to music education.

It was stated that the meaningful event was completed with issues discussed and ideas shared related to music education over four days, and that the event was finalised with a concert and the presentation of certificates of participation and certificates of gratitude to the participants.
