180 young doctors who successfully graduated from Near East University Faculty of Medicine took their first steps into the profession by taking the “Hippocratic Oath”

180 graduates of Near East University Faculty of Medicine, who successfully completed their education, took their first steps into the profession by taking the Hippocratic Oath at the ceremony held at Atatürk Culture and Congress Center. The ceremony, which started with a moment of silence and the reading of the National Anthem, was held with intense participation. Families also showed great interest in the ceremony, which was held with the participation of many faculty members.

The opening speech of the ceremony were delivered by Founding Dean of Near East University Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan and on behalf of the graduating students, by Qays-Marcel Ghneim, salutatorian of the Faculty of Medicine English Program.

Habiba Abdullahi graduated from the Near East University Faculty of Medicine English Program as the valedictorian, while Qays-Marcel Ghneim graduated as the salutatorian and Edthal Mohamed Ezzeldein Ahmed Khader graduated as the third top student. In the Turkish Program, Hazel Nimet Şahin finished the spring semester with the highest GPA, while Mahmut Gözel became the salutatorian and Okan Erdemsiz was the third top graduate.

It was emphasized a the ceremony that the students graduated as well-equipped and competent physicians with the education they received. Young doctors stepped into their new professional lives under the proud gaze of their teachers and families. After the speeches, all graduating students took the Hippocratic Oath with the Founding Dean of Near East University Faculty of Medicine, Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan and threw threw off their caps.

Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan: “You graduated from a faculty that has rightfully taken its place in the list of World Medical Faculties.”

Stating that the Near East University Faculty of Medicine has completed its 16th year with the support of distinguished academicians who have worked hard since its establishment, Near East University Faculty of Medicine Founding Dean Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan said, “We are proud to be at the 11th term graduation ceremony. Dear parents and families, I am glad you are here. I have no doubt that our graduates will work devotedly for human health.”

“You graduated from a faculty that has rightfully taken its place in the list of World Medical Faculties. You received training from physicians who are competent in their fields of expertise in a modern, high-tech hospital with excellent laboratories and infrastructure.” said Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan, and gave advices to graduate students. Prof. Dr. Gamze Mocan said, “Medicine is not only about treating diseases, but also about practicing preventive medicine before diseases occur. It means both teaching and lifelong learning and applying the right practices. While practicing your profession, remember that your communication skills must be at a high level, especially in the patient-physician relationship. Thus, paying attention to concepts such as empathy, stress and anger management, patience and understanding in your daily life will contribute to your professional career and success.”

Qays-Marcel Ghneim: “Today, we not only celebrate our achievements, but also acknowledge the great responsibility that comes with this honorable profession.”

Faculty salutatorian Qays-Marcel Ghneim, who started his speech by thanking his family and academicians who supported them throughout their education, said, “Your support, wisdom, patience and dedication to our education played a key role in making us the professionals we are today. We have completed an important milestone in our journey. Today, we not only celebrate our achievements, but also accept the great responsibility that comes with this honorable profession.” Qays-Marcel Ghneim, further said “The journey of medicine is undoubtedly a challenging road. It requires hard work, resilience and deep commitment. We experienced doubt, anxiety and fatigue, but we were determined to work together to heal and support those in need.”

Drawing attention to the wars taking place in the world, Qays-Marcel Ghneim said, “In this period when my country, Palestine, is dragged into war, I undertake to move forward as a sign of hope and change. Using the knowledge and skills I have acquired, I promise to serve those in need, bring healing to places of suffering, and symbolize resilience and compassion in the face of adversity. We will heal the world. May God speed us.”
